MINUTES OF THE OPEN MEETING OF THE FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF ARLINGTON HEIGHTS HELD IN THE HR CONFERENCE ROOM ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2025 Commissioner Dean Walsh called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to review and approve previous meeting minutes, interview Firefighter and Police Officer candidates as part of the background process, and discuss the eligibility of specific Firefighter and Police Officer candidates. Roll call of members: Dean Walsh, Chairperson Lynn Szabo, Commissioner Also present were: Kelly Livingston, Fire & Police Commission Liaison Dave Roberts, Division Chief Joe Murphy, Police Sgt Citizens to be heard: No one in attendance Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to review and approve the Open Session minutes of September 8, 2025. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None At 3:01p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to go into Closed Session per 5ILCS120/2(c) (1): appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees or legal counsel. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo, Nayes: None At 4:04p.m. Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to end Closed Session and go to Open Session. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to approve the Closed Session minutes of September 8, 2025. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None At the conclusion of the interview for Firefighter, the Board determined the individual to have met the criteria and continue the candidate in the process. Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate 25 in the process for Firefighter, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 4.3 Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. 1|Page Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None At the conclusion of the interviews for Police Officer, the Board determined the individuals to have met the criteria and continued the candidate in the process. Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate JW in the process for Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to continue applicant, candidate CM in the process for Police Officer, pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 3.5 Police Department Staff Interviews, Background Investigation and Medical Exams. Motion was seconded by Lynn Szabo. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to disqualify applicant, candidate NA, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to disqualify applicant, candidate #7, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to disqualify applicant, candidate #11, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None Commissioner Lynn Szabo moved to disqualify applicant, candidate #12, from further consideration of employment with the Police Department pursuant to the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rule, Section 2.4 Disqualifications. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None 2|Page Commission Lynn Szabo moved to remove all Police Officer candidates whose eligibility had expired as of 8/9/2025. As per the Board of Fire & Police Commission Rules, Section 3.2, letter D, applicants will remain on the Eligibility List for one year from the date the Commission added their name to the List. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh. Motion approved. Roll call: Ayes: Walsh, Szabo Nayes: None There being no further business to discuss, Commissioner Lynn Szabo made a motion to adjourn Open Session at 4:07p.m. Motion was seconded by Dean Walsh.
