City Of Charleston Green Team January 21, 2026 Minutes Meeting called to order at: 12:01pm Quorum established In-Person Attendance: Quenton King, Samantha Nygaard, Linda Frame, Chris Higgins (speaker) Via Microsoft Teams: Nancy Bruns, Stephanie Hysmith, Andrew Earley, Shawn Phillips, Emmett Pepper 1. Welcome 2. Adopt the minutes from December 17, 2026 meeting Motion to adopt minutes from last meeting by Linda Frame. Vote is unanimous and motion to adopt minutes is accepted. NEW BUSINESS 1. Chris Higgins, City Arborist a. Spring Hill was made an arboretum, necessitating someone to take care of the trees b. Supports Municipal Beautification Committee, but most of his work is concentrated at Spring Hill c. Next Sunday Saunter hike happening on Sunday Feb 1 d. Green Team can share Spring Hill events and hikes on our Facebook 2. Highlights from State of the City a. Mayor had a powerpoint show that highlighted some work of committees. We should strive to be included next year. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. COMMITTEE REPORTS 1. What to Do with Stuff Committee (Patti Hamilton) - None 2. Communications (Linda Frame, Patti Hamilton, Sam Nygaard) a. Plan to work on Green Guide and Report to the Mayor b. Green Team business cards are happening  3. PODA (Linda Frame, Andrew Earley, Quenton King) - a. To do - Reach back out to 4 Points Sheraton about getting their process ready for 4. Nominations Committee (Quenton, Sam, Nancy) - a. Jeanne Chandler to be considered at February meeting Updates: 1. City Council Environment & Recycling Committee (Council Member Burton) - Absent 2. Charleston Dept. of Public Works (Director Webster) - Absent 3. Kanawha County Solid Waste Authority (Emmett Pepper) a. Did not meet this month. Linda will connect Emmett with Roane County to learn about their glass recycling 4. ICLEI Municipal Investment Fund - a. Report feedback due 5. East-West Connector - None Announcements ● E-Day at the WV Legislature is Monday, Feb 23. There will be a networking event on Sunday before the event. ○ Shawn will table for Green Team; we need to get table cloth from Patti ● Green Drinks will be tonight at 5:30 at Fife. West Virginia Land Trust will be the guest speaker tonight ● West Side Neighborhood Association is having a Swap Meet on January 31 from 11am- 3pm at North Charleston Community Center ● Emmett said a public speaker at Charleston City Council is interested in more trees in the City ○ Patricia Smith ● West Virginians for Energy Freedom will have Utility Accountability Day on February 26th at the Legislature Next meeting: 3rd Wednesday is February 18, 2025 Adjourn Motion to adjourn by Linda Frame.
