SPECIAL MEETING
1. 15-9187 Special Meeting Agenda
The purpose of this meeting is to consider and take action on any item on the
agenda for the regular Charlotte City Council meeting scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on
September 24, 2018.
Call to Order
The City Council of the City of Charlotte, North Carolina convened for a Special
Meeting on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 4:14 p.m. in Room 267 of the
Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center with Mayor Vi Lyles presiding.
In attendance were Council Members Dimple Ajmera, Tariq Bokhari, Ed Driggs,
Larken Egleston, Julie Eiselt, Justin Harlow, LaWana Mayfield, James Mitchell,
Matt Newton, Greg Phipps, and Braxton Winston.
Mayor and Council Consent Item Questions
Mayor and Council may ask questions about Consent agenda items.
Federal Update
The City’s federal lobbying team from Holland & Knight made it's annual update
to the Mayor and City Council on federal administration and legislative actions
impacting the City. The presentation also highlighted progress in addressing the
City’s 2018 key legislative priorities and provided a look ahead to the 2019
session of the U.S. Congress.
Implementing Housing Framework - Sale of City Property
Pam Wideman, Director of Housing and Neighborhood Services provided an
overview of current City-owned parcels that represent opportunities for the
creation of new for-sale and rental units for households earning 80 percent and
below the area median income.
The use of publicly owned land to achieve affordable housing, including
homeownership opportunities, is consistent with the Housing Charlotte
Framework, the City Council-adopted Real Estate and Facilities Policy, and
national best practices.
City Council will be asked to approve several sales of City-owned land at the
October 8, 2018 Business Meeting.
Adjournment
A motion was made by Council Member Egleston and seconded by Council
Member Driggs to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 5:23 p.m.
