Code §30-4-70(a)(1) Municipal Court Judges ADJOURNMENT Page 1 of 1 1 MEETING DATE: November 15, 2022 DEPARTMENT: City Clerk FROM: Erika Hammond, City Clerk SUBJECT: Resolution No.: R-2022-097 - The City of Columbia Adopts the Following Resolution in Support of Requesting the South Carolina Legislature to Enact a Statute to Require Security Cameras at the Entrances and Exits of Nursing Homes, Residential Care Facilities and Assisted Living Centers FUNDING SOURCE & ORIGINAL BUDGET: ATTACHMENTS:  #a: R_2022_097_Resolution_for_Cameras (PDF) Updated: 11/11/2022 9:01 AM Page 1 Packet Pg. 2 1.a RESOLUTION NO.: R-2022-097 THE CITY OF COLUMBIA ADOPTS THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF REQUESTING THE SOUTH CAROLINA LEGISLATURE TO ENACT A STATUTE TO REQUIRE SECURITY CAMERAS AT THE ENTRANCES AND EXITS OF NURSING HOMES, RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES AND ASSISTED LIVING CENTERS WHEREAS, the safety and securi ty of the state ' s senior popul ation is the focal po int of nursing homes, residential care fac il ities and assisted living centers in comm un ities statewide; and WHEREAS, the well-be ing of the sen ior residents at the aforementioned facilities should be monitored and regulated w ith the latest technology availa ble; and WHEREAS, the usage of securi ty cameras around such faci lities can provide crucial info rmation regarding the safety and security of senior c itizens and the type of care they receive by a facil ity's staff, other residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, monitored security footage cou ld assist in locatin g a senior citizen who has ventured outside of the eyesight of the facility's staff and othe r reside nts, especially during a time of emergency; and WHEREAS, other states in our nation have implemented strategies to utilize security cameras to protect the integrity of senio r-living facilities and have c reated po licies fo r the monitori ng of such security systems; and NOW T HEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that by the Mayor and Counc il this day of , 2022, by this Resolution, do here by request that the South Carolina Legislatu re e nact a statute and/or a regulation requiring security cameras to be placed and monitored at the entrances and exits of all nursing homes, residential care facilities a nd assisted living centers.
