CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA CORAL SPRINGS CITY COMMISSION RETREAT SUMMARY Wednesday, August 27, 2025 Multi-Purpose Room, Public Safety and Public 4:00 PM Works Complex 4150 NW 120 Avenue Coral Springs, Florida 33065 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Mayor Scott J. Brook at 4:10 p.m. Roll Call Mayor Scott J. Brook Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen Commissioner Shawn Cerra Commissioner Joshua Simmons (Attended virtually until 4:30 p.m. in-person arrival.) Commissioner Joseph McHugh (Attended virtually.) Also in attendance: City Manager Catherine Givens City Attorney John Hearn City Clerk Georgia Elliott Moment of Silence Pledge of Allegiance Commission Retreat Items The following members of staff presented to the City Commission: • Nicole Giordano provided an update on the city’s strategic plan progress as of Q3 2025. • Kristi Bartlett gave an update on economic development in the city. • Michael McNally discussed upcoming city events in Q1 2026. • April Wyche gave an education update. • Tina Jou presented on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan: Sidewalks & Master Mobility Plan and Affordable Housing. Copies of staff presentations were made part of the agenda packet. Discussion ensued and staff fielded questions from the Commission. Staff received direction from the Commission to: • Benchmark best practices in the area on affordable housing. • Issue a statement to the community on upcoming Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Community Town Hall Meetings. Commission Communications The following items were discussed by the City Commission: • A discussion on morning Commission meetings ensued and the initial request to limit and/or eliminate morning meetings was withdrawn. • Assistance to paint the Coral Springs High School logo was discussed. • Consensus was reached to recognize AJ Congero and the Florida Panthers IceDen Team. • Condolences and prayers were extended to the Minnesota school shooting victims. • Consensus to recognize local authors was reached. • Staff was requested to investigate expanding the employee clinic hours to include Saturdays. • Staff was requested to research the addition of a city position geared towards the focus on public- private partnerships. • Experiences at attended conferences were shared. • Sentiments encouraging empathy, candor, and curiosity toward others were expressed. • Remarks regarding the cultivation of a vision for the Coral Springs Center of the Arts were made. City Manager Givens reviewed upcoming city events and provided closing remarks.
