Mayor Scott Brook called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m.

Commission Workshop Items
1. Solid Waste Authority Presentation (John Norris)
Director John Norris introduced Broward County Solid Waste Authority Todd Storti. Mr. Storti
reviewed the objectives and progress of his agency. A copy of his presentation was made a
part of this meeting summary. Discussion ensued and Mr. Storti fielded questions from the
Commission.
2. Staff Updates
City Manager Catherine Givens updated the Commission on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas
school choice window and shared that letter will be issued to the community alerting them of
the upcoming opportunity. Ms. Givens requested a Commission representative to help
facilitate future discussions with the school board. Consensus was reached to have
Commissioner Cerra serve as the Commission representative.
A city’s aesthetic update was provided by Ms. Givens.
Commission relationship manager Luwam Ghermay led a discussion on the 2025-26 Board
of Director Appointments for the Broward League of Cities. A consensus was reached, and
the following appointments were made: Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen to serve as Director,
Commissioner Simmons to serve as Alternate, and Commissioner Cerra to serve as Second
Alternate.
Director Michael McNally provided an event update and reviewed expectations for the March
14 Blarney Bash event.
Director Tina Jou provided clarification on the city’s use of an income verification consultant
for the housing assistance program.
Commission Communications
3. Proclamation Request, Family Abduction Awareness Day (Mayor Brook)
A consensus was recached to support the proclamation.
4. Resolution Request, Medicare for All (Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen)
There was a lack of consensus to support the resolution.
5. Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital (Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen)
An overview of the city’s in-kind support to the facility was led by Deputy City Manager Pazdra.
A copy of his handout was made part of this meeting summary packet. A consensus was
reached to examine the city’s scope of work and support to the facility at a future workshop.
6. Commission Attended Conferences
The Commission reflected on their attendance at various conferences.
The following topics were discussed:
• Support for a playground at James Hunt Elementary School;
• Staff was requested to continue discussions to relocate the post office;
• Staff was requested to provide an update on the CSID canal project and tree removal
responsibilities at a future workshop;
• Staff was requested to discuss the city’s tree trust fund at a future workshop;
• Staff informed the Commission that individual briefings will be held to discuss the
functionality of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA);
• Consensus to recognize the Archdiocese of Miami at the upcoming Barlney Bash
event;
• Staff was thanked for their dedication and hard work.
