Mayor Scott Brook called the meeting to order at 5:07 p.m.

Commission Workshop Items
1. FY26 Events (Michael McNally)
Director McNally presented the FY26 Special Events Budget giving an overview of FY25 city
events, sponsorships, and revenue to date for context. Director McNally recommended
increasing the FY26 Special Events Budget to $533,000 and to fully support the existing
events and enhancements. City Manager Givens added that the recommendation included
keeping the Festival of the Arts and all other events in place as research was done for FY27.
A copy of the presentation was made a part of the record.
Consensus was reached in support of the FY26 Special Events Budget recommendation.
Consensus was reached to discuss funding opportunities for the Festival of the Arts at a future
workshop.
2. “Move with the Mayor” Discussion (Catherine Givens)
The “Move with the Mayor” initiative was discussed. A handout detailing the “Move with the
Mayor” strategic initiative was made a part of the record.
Consensus was reached for the Mayor, Vice Mayor, and each Commissioner to each have
their own activity which they will host and be renamed according to the person hosting the
activity (i.e., “Move with Mayor (name)”, “Move with Vice Mayor (name)”, “Move with
Commissioner (name)”.
Consensus was reached to amend the “Move with the Mayor” informational handout to
remove the word “cohost” and replace it with “host”.
Commission Communications
A request to rename a basketball court or the gymnasium after Jim Riley of the Kreul Classic
(basketball tournament) was made. City Manager Givens reaffirmed that the request was
referred to the Naming Rights Committee for consideration.
3. School Tours (Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen)
Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen stated her intent to tour traditional schools in Coral Springs.
Discussion ensued. It was confirmed that commission protocols do not prevent tours of
schools or businesses.
4. Resolution Request, Opposing New Offshore Oil and Gas Leasing (Vice Mayor Metayer
Bowen)
Consensus was reached in support of a resolution to oppose new offshore oil and gas leasing.
Discussion ensued regarding the Broward County Solid Waste Authority and the recently
published master plan.
Consensus was reached to discuss the impact of the master plan at a future workshop.
5. Recognition Request, Jennifer Brown (Commissioner McHugh)
Consensus was reached in support of a recognition for Jennifer Brown.
6. Panthers Warriors Marketing Video (Mayor Brook)
Consensus was reached to allow a Panthers Warriors Marketing Video to be produced by the
Panthers Warriors at no cost to the City.
7. Recognition Request, Friends of Music (Mayor Brook)
Consensus was reached in support of a recognition for Friends of Music.
8. Commission Attended Conferences (City Commission)
City Attorney Hearn disclosed that Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen received an honorarium in
Germany related to sustainability, from June 15th to June 19th, and she will be using her title.
