Commission Workshop Items
1. Solid Waste Authority Update (Chad Maraj)
A solid waste authority update was presented by Public Works Director Chad Maraj, and a
copy of his presentation was included in the agenda packet. Mr. Maraj responded to
questions from the Commission, followed by additional discussion.
City Manager Givens provided updates on the Coral Springs Community Redevelopment
Agency (CRA). She provided a historical overview of the selection of a chair and vice chair.
City Attorney Hearn provided input and guidance on the selection process. Consensus was
reached to host a special meeting of the Commission on March 26 to select a CRA chair
and vice chair.
City Manager Givens noted a recent meeting with the Coral Springs Youth Soccer league
aimed at clarifying communication about the City’s RFP process.
Commission Communications
2. City Sponsorships (Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen)
Consensus was reached to approve the city sponsorships as presented.
3. Proclamation Request, World Landscape Architecture Month (Vice Mayor Metayer
Bowen)
• Consensus was reached to support the proclamation request for World Landscape
Architecture Month.
• Consensus was reached to permit Vice Mayor Metayer Bowen the use of her title
for an endowment at her alma mater.
4. Proclamation Request, Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day (Commissioner
Simmons)
Consensus was reached to support the proclamation request for Tuskegee Airmen
Commemoration Day.
5. Letter of Support for H.R. 7437 – Bridges and Safety Infrastructure for Community
Success (BASICS) Act (Commissioner Simmons)
• Consensus was reached for a Letter of Support for H.R. 7437.
• Commissioner Simmons expressed a desire to return to the Broward Metropolitan
Planning Organization as the City representative.
• Staff was requested to explore outfitting existing batting cages for cricket.
• Consensus was reached to recognize National Cricket Day in the month of January.
6. Recognition Request, Teddy Richards, USA Hockey Equipment Manager
(Commissioner McHugh)
Consensus was reached to recognize Teddy Richards, USA Hockey Equipment Manager.
7. Key to the City Request, Dan Hernandez (City Commission)
• Consensus was reached to approve the Key to the City request for Dan Hernandez.
• Consensus was reached to approve the Key to the City request for Olympian
Andrew Torgashev.
