City of Joliet 150 West Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60432 Meeting Minutes - Final Wednesday, September 30, 2020 5:00 PM City Hall, Council Chambers Arts Commission Commission Members Quinn Adamowski Giovanni Alvarado Lori Carmine Donna Franks-Tapley Eric Gorder Tom Grotovsky Vince Logan Greg Peerbolte Lonnie Posley Ron Romero John Simpson Peg Stoiber Deborah Summers David Wheeler Ellis Wright Arts Commission Meeting Minutes - Final September 30, 2020 Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public)while adhering to social distancing guidelines.During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can register “To Be Called” to speak up to 24 hours in advance on theJoliet.gov “Public Comments” web page. Comments can also be emailed in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: Adamowski, Blaser, Carmine, Devine, Dorris, Las, Malone, Millen and Rouse Absent: Fuqua, Gorder, Marcum, Moore, Regis, Simpson Jr, Stoiber and Summers 0819 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes TMP-0443 Attachments: Arts Commission 8-19-20 Minutes CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS None. OLD BUSINESS Subcommittee Reports Funding Committee-Eryn Blaser, Chairperson Chairperson Eryn Blaser provided a recap of the conversations that have taken place at past subcommittee meetings. The subcommittee has discussed the possibility of fundraising events including a gala for art scholarships, a Walk of Fame and ongoing research for grants the Commission may qualify for. Page 1 of 3 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes - Final September 30, 2020 Arts Innovation Committee-Lori Carmine, Chairperson Chairperson Lori Carmine discussed the layout of the future website, how it will be housed with the City website, possible subpages, content, and the possibility of a logo contest. They also recapped the social media presence for the Commission and who would manage the page. Arts Incubation Committee-Erik Gorder, Chairperson It was noted that the Incubation Subcommittee is yet to meet. Commission Chairperson Erick Dorris stated he will reach out to subcommittee Chairperson Eric Gorder to follow up. Partnerships & Community Engagement Committee-Dr. Theresa Rouse and Valerie Devine, Co-Chairpersons The Partnerships & Community Engagement subcommittee provided any update on their current program which recruits artists to do a virtual art lesson/supplemntal lesson planning for school districts in the area. This program would build exposure to additional art mediums and long term could become a part of public programming post-COVID. Applications are still being accepted. NEW BUSINESS For Discussion: Next Steps for Subcommittees Subcommittees were encouraged to continue meeting and exploring the recommendations being made to Council on October 19. They were also asked to send each of their recommendations to Erick for his presentation. NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION The Commission had a brief discussion about creating a response or statement concerning social justice and/or COVID. The group did not come to a consensus on a message or forum for sharing this message. The topic was moved to the Vision 2020 Committee for further discussion. PUBLIC COMMENT None. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Rouse, seconded by Carmine, to adjourn the September 30, 2020 Arts Commission meeting.
