Under Phase 5, all sectors of the economy can resume at regular capacity with new safety guidelines and procedures. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person who is not fully vaccinated wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. ROLL CALL Present Chairperson Quinn Adamowski, Eric Gorder, Peg (Marguerite) Stoiber and Deborah Summers APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Gorder, seconded by Stoiber, that the May 19, 2021 meeting minutes be approved.. The motion carried unanimously. TMP-2065 Attachments: May 19 2021 Meeting Minutes for Approval CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS None. OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS Discussion: Submitted Public Comments Regarding Established Murals The committee discussed their reactions to the public comments. There was consensus that there is a need for sensitivity to public opinion and keeping an open mind to the possibilities of ways to move forward. Discussion: Overall Review of Murals Eric Gorger and Peg Stoiber are working on a power point presentation of the original images and the current condition of the murals. The goal is to document the Committee’s work on evaluating the murals and to educate the public on the process. A discussion continued about the possibilities of including information on our rating system and making suggestions on how to save some of those in poorest condition. The ultimate goal is to honor the past while welcoming new voices, artists and types of artwork. Page 1 of 2 Arts Commission - Arts Incubation Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final July 21, 2021 Discussion: Next Steps for Plan of Action First, the subcommittee plans to share the documentation of the murals with the Arts Commission at the August meeting to educate them on our process and to get their feedback on our process. Second, we hope to share this presentation with the Joliet City Council and make recommendations for the future of the murals. NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION None. PUBLIC COMMENT Dante DiBartolo spoke and offered his expertise to help us better understand mural construction. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Stoiber, seconded by Summers, that the July 21, 2021 meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously. This meeting will be held in an accessible location.
