City of Joliet 150 West Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60432 Meeting Minutes - Final Wednesday, April 21, 2021 4:15 PM City Hall, Conference Room 1 Arts Commission - Arts Innovation Subcommittee Committee Memebers Lori Carmine Lauren Las Jennifer Moore John Simpson, Jr Arts Commission - Arts Innovation Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final April 21, 2021 Page 1 of 1 Arts Commission - Arts Innovation Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final April 21, 2021 Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public) while adhering to social distancing guidelines. During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. ROLL CALL Present Chairperson Lori Carmine, Lauren Las and John Simpson Jr Absent Jennifer Moore APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Simpson, Jr, seconded by Las, that the March 24, 2021 meeting minutes be approved. OLD BUSINESS Contest Lauren Las will create the rules and guidelines for the logo creation contest following those established for the new public art call by the City Center Partnership. The deadline will be delayed until after the current call is complete to avoid confusion. Social Media Lori Carmine spoke with City Clerk Christa Desiderio about a weekly post for the Arts Commission in the form of a suggestion box. The committee discussed opening with a question and following up with a poll and will try this for a month and review the outcome beginning in May. Lori stated she is working on a "Call to Artists" page where projects and individuals can post projects that need artists. NEW BUSINESS How Can Art Bring Tourism to Joliet The subcommittee agrees that art would be an attraction for additional tourism . John Simpson suggested additional features on Channel 6 that tie into the 'Meet the Artist' feature. Lauren Las suggested small videos of artists to add to social media but might need a separate social media presence for this.
