City of Joliet 150 West Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60432 Meeting Minutes - Final Thursday, May 13, 2021 6:00 PM City Hall, Conference Room 1 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Committee Members Eryn Blaser Erick Deshaun Dorris Roxianna Fuqua Crystal Malone Non-Voting Members Lizbeth Aviles Christina Bourne Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final May 13, 2021 Page 1 of 1 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final May 13, 2021 Pursuant to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity's Guidelines recommend best practices that limit an in-person meeting to 50 people or less (Council Chambers allows for 18 members of the public) while adhering to social distancing guidelines. During meetings, any member of the public physically present in the Council Chambers in excess of the limit will be asked to wait in another room with live feed to the meeting until the Citizens To Be Heard on Agenda Items section or Public Comments section of the meeting has commenced. Speakers will be rotated into Council Chambers to allow everyone an opportunity to speak. Pursuant to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Guidelines, it is recommended that any individual appearing in-person wear a face-covering to cover their nose and mouth. Citizens who are unable to attend the meeting can email comments in advance of the meeting to publiccomment@joliet.gov. REVIEWING PAST & CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES Grants Subcommittee discussed and reviewed over grant opportunities that were brought forth to the Arts Commission and from the last subcommittee meeting. The first grant was submitted before the deadline at the end of March. The subcommittee discussed the deadline and elements for the next grant opportunity with deadlines approaching by the end of the month. Page 1 of 3 Arts Commission - Funding Subcommittee Meeting Minutes - Final May 13, 2021 CCP in Conjunction with the Arts Commission Project & Purpose The subcommittee discussed the different elements, aspects, and future steps within The City Center Partnership, in conjunction with the City of Joliet Arts Commission call for artists and art work. The subcommittee discussed that proposal concepts and documentation deadline for art works to be considered for the call was extended. All updates and information can be seen on the website jolietccp.com/art <http://jolietccp.com/art>. The subcommittee discussed possible sponsorship opportunities. FUTURE FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES TO FOCUS ON IN 2021 Grant Opportunities The subcommittee discussed the future grant opportunity and the deadline that is approaching as well as looking at other opportunities. The subcommittee discussed looking, learning, and researching what other organizations and funding opportunities that are taking placing and available. Partnerships/Connections The subcommittee discussed the partnership with a local institutions and possible projects in the future. The subcommittee discussed looking into opportunities that connect health and the Arts. Other Ideas The subcommittee discussed a possible event that focus on the Arts in Joliet and creating an interactive and engaging experience. POTENTIAL TOPICS FOR PRESENTATION TO THE ARTS COMMISSION JALA The subcommittee discussed developing more ideas and a plan for this possible event, before presenting to the Arts Commission. The subcommittee discussed the idea having a Gala event. Library Partnership The subcommittee discussed having a conversation with the Joliet Public Library about how we can connect and collaborate. Budget Forecasting The subcommittee discussed having conversations with the county and city about Percent for Arts programs. REVIEW TIMELINE FOR FUTURE ITEMS Planning for Future Subcommittee Meetings Thursday May 27th, 2021. The subcommittee discussed having future dates through the next month planned a head.
