The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: Fonte, Renwick, Schoenheider, Schultz, Testin and Van Dyke Absent: Satcher CITIZENS TO BE HEARD ON AGENDA ITEMS No one present. ARBORIST REPORT Jim Teiber, City Arborist said he has reviewed the tree inventory proposal. He said they are currently planting new trees throughout the City. He said that after planting, the contractor does water once and a door hanger is given to residents with watering instructions. Guest, Councilwoman Sherri Reardon inquired about the tree risk assessments process. 1. EDUCATIONAL TREE WALK REVIEW Rita Renwick said that about 20 individuals attended the educational tree walk and it was a success. She said Tim Broderick attended and he was interested in the Tree Advisory Board. 2. INCREASE IN NUMBER OF TREE BOARD MEMBERS Rita Renwick said that the number of board members will be discussed in the near future. 3. GRANT OPPORTUNITIES Rita Renwick will be participating in an Illinois Inflation Reduction Act Funding Information Forum via Zoom on November 14th to explore grant opportunities for Joliet. 4. FUTURE TREE GROWING CONTRACT Rita Renwick currently has no information regarding this. She stated that Joliet is in the 9th year of a 10-year growing contract. For nurseries to bid and meet our requirements, a new contract should be undertaken soon. Page 1 of 2 Tree Advisory Board Meeting Minutes - Pending Approval October 5, 2023 5. TREE CITY USA APPLICATION Rita Renwick said the application has to be in by the end of December 2023. Rita explained the application process and requirements. NEW OR OLD BUSINESS, NOT FOR FINAL ACTION OR RECOMMENDATION The 2024 meeting dates were discussed and set the dates as follows: February 1, April 4, June 6, August 1, October 3, and December 5. Jim Testin said that the Chicago Region Tree Initiative (Tree and Green Infrastructure Work Group) just got out their Ordinance Bill for tree preservation and he will share with the group. They will be having a workshop in the beginning of December 2023 and Jim will be attending. PUBLIC COMMENT No one present.
