City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Sister Cities Committee Minutes September 18, 2014 Meeting Committee Members: Sue Baxter (Co-Chair) (Absent) Maria Uchytil (Co-Chair) Glenn Gray (Resigned) Joan Mize (Secretary) Chloie Watson (Treasurer) Marsha Squires (UAS Liaison) (Absent) 1. Approval of Agenda Agenda was approved. 2. Approval of Minutes The Committee approved the minutes from the August 21, 2014 meeting. 3. Airport Display Case We need to re-do the contract with the airport. Maria will take care of this. Discussed changing out the display since it appears that Mayor Lachica will not be visiting Juneau. Next Display will highlight all of the Sister Cities for the holidays with an item or two from each one. We will discuss when to change it out at the next meeting. 4. Kalibo Update a. Mayor Lachica’s visit – It appears that this will not happen this year. b. Joan checked with the Mayor’s office on the status of the Agreement/Proclamation and it will be completed soon. Joan discussed with them when to do signing in Juneau and it was suggested that it coincide with the Filipino Community Christmas dinner in December. Someone could then take it to Kalibo and have a signing there. 5. Recruitment of Committee Members Glenn Gray has resigned from the Committee. We need to mention the vacancy to friends and associates. Possibly have a member from the Filipino Community. 6. Old Business A reception for exchange students and families will be held in the log annex of the Juneau Church of Christ at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, November 18th. Same format as last year with students bringing dishes from their country. 7. Next Meeting The next meeting will be Monday, October 20, 2014 at 5:00 pm in the Valley Library at the Mendenhall Mall.
