City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Sister Cities Committee Minutes October 20, 2014 Meeting Committee Members: Sue Baxter (Co-Chair) (Absent) Maria Uchytil (Co-Chair) Joan Mize (Secretary) Chloie Watson (Treasurer) Eli Olson (New Member) Marsha Squires (UAS Liaison) (Absent) Guest – Larry Snyder (Kalibo Sister City Sub-Committee Member) 1. Approval of Agenda (Added “Old Business”) 2. Approval of Minutes The Committee approved the minutes from the September 18, 2014 meeting. 3. Airport Display Case Contract with the airport has been extended through June 30, 2019. Chloie and Maria signed the agreement. Next Display will highlight all of the Sister Cities for the holidays with an item or two from each one. We will discuss when to change it out at the next meeting. 4. Update on Vladivostok a. Maria received letter via email from Yulia Galtseva from Vladivostok. She is resigning and the new contact person will be Antonina Evtushenko at evtushenko@vic.ru. Also attached was an invitation to the Vladivostok International Urban Forum on November 13-17, 2014. b. Maria will get with Marsha about the college student exchange. 5. Kalibo Update Mayor Lachica will be visiting Juneau with 3 or 4 other delegates. He will arrive October 29th and be in Juneau until November 3rd. There is a fundraiser at the Filipino Community Center on Wednesday, October 22 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00. A traditional Philippine meal will be served (eat-in or take-out) and there will be a raffle for door prizes. There will be a meeting at CBJ at 2:30 pm on October 23rd to plan the date for the signing of the agreement and other activities. Maria and Joan will attend. 6. Old Business A reception for exchange students and families will be held in the log annex of the Juneau Church of Christ at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, November 18th. Same format as last year with students bringing dishes from their country. 7.
