Questions, call 608-789-7512. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6pm. Roll Call Present: 6 - Laura Godden, Mackenzie Mindel, Eric Garland, Jim Gallagher, Ellie McLoone,John Reiman Excused: 1 - Natalie Heneghan Approval of Minutes 1. Approval of the November 20, 2025 Meeting Minutes. Laura Godden moved to approve the minutes. John Reiman seconded. The motion passed 6-0 by voice vote. Agenda Items: City of La Crosse, Wisconsin Page 1 Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting Minutes - Final January 29, 2026 2. 26-0030 Annual Code of Ethics Policy Review. Mackenzie Mindel asked if the Commission have read, or will read, and agree to the Code of Ethics for 2026. The Commission agreed. 3. 26-0063 Nomination of the Professional Arts Building- Mayo Campus (St Francis School of Nursing), located at 615 10th Street S, to be designated as a Local Historic Landmark. Staff provided an overview of the nomination process and the nomination. Staff stated that they consider it a complete nomination as it included a detailed description of the building, the building's history, and a clear statements of significance to meet the proposed criteria for designation. Marcus Zettler, representing the Preservation Alliance of La Crosse (PAL) and nominator of the building, stated that PAL nominated this building after other buildings in La Crosse have been demolished. He then provided an overview of the building's history and its builder. Rich Hetland, with Mayo, stated that he was present to have the process clarified and to learn what designation means. Gordon Howie, with Mayo, stated that their were no current plans to demolish the building. Any other questions he had were answered by staff. John Reiman asked about the skywalk connecting to the building across Market Street. Marcius stated that he left that out of the nomination. Staff stated that should the building be designated, review of the removal of the existing skywalk and infill would be reviewed by the Commission. John Reiman moved to accept the nomination as complete and hold a Public Hearing at the February 22, 2026 meeting. Jim Gallagher seconded. Ellie Mc stated her support for this designation. Mackenzie Mindel stated that preserving this building would be important to hospitals in neighborhoods and their contribution to their character. The motion passed 6-0 by voice vote. 4. Discussion on Historic Certificate Initiative. John Reiman suggested that the Commission start an initiative to recognize property owner's efforts in fixing up and/or maintaining their property on their own. This initiative is an effort to bring positivity to the city as well as to historic preservation. John stated that he wanted the Commission to be more proactive and less reactive. Any property could be eligible, not just designated ones, and it would be suggested properties commission members observe just from traveling around the city. The commissioners thought it was a great idea. John stated that he will put something together and bring it back to a future meeting. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm.
