Avis Meade led the committee in the Pledge of Allegiance. 2.0 Roll Call Present 6 - Trustee Dan Whittington, Pamela Bedard, Lisa Biegalski, Michael Ledonne, Sharon Vish, and Jenny Swensen Absent 3 - Ahmed Ali, Barbara Ware, and Gladys Piper Also present: Nicole Aranas, Assistant Village Manager, Avis Meade, Communications Coordinator and Lt. Tony Sally, Lombard Fire Department. 3.0 Public Participation None. 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Michael Ledonne, seconded by Lisa Biegalski, to approve the minutes of the February 9, 2015 meeting. The motion passed by a unanimous vote. 5.0 Unfinished Business 130274 Youth Leadership Program Update on the 2015 Youth Leadership Program. Village of Lombard Page 1 Community Relations Committee Minutes March 9, 2015 Chairperson Dan Whittington provided an update on the Youth Leadership program. Information on the program and the applications were distributed to the committee. Avis Meade shared information on the outreach that has been made to the schools to attract interested students to participate in the program. 6.0 New Business 150113 2015 Junior Firefighter Academy Discussion concerning the 2015 Junior Firefighter Academy. Lt. Tony Sally from the Lombard Fire Department shared a proposed agenda for the 2015 Junior Firefighter Academy. Last year, the academy had students from Glenbard East, Montini and Willowbrook high schools. The intent is to keep the class size small with a maximum of ten participants. Lt. Sally stated that it would be preferable to add two hours to each day of the program rather than extend the program by an additional day. The students in academy last year were very interested in the program and the additional hours each day would allow the instructors to go deeper into the material. This year the curriculum will include more information on emergency medical and paramedic services. Jenny Swenson inquired about whether committee members could also attend the sessions. Lt. Sally stated that committee members are welcome at all sessions. Sharon Vish inquired about whether there might be value to opening up the program to college age students interested in pursuing a career in fire services. Lt. Sally stated that older students up through age 20 might benefit from the program, particularly the portions on how to navigate the application and testing process. A motion was made by Sharon Vish, seconded by Michael Ledonne, to keep the program open to residents through age 18, with available opening to students through age 20. The motion passed by a unanimous vote. 7.0 Other Business The Committee welcomed new Communications Coordinator, Avis Meade. Avis comes to the Village from Lake County government with previous experience with the Lake County Convention and Visitors Bureau. 8.0 Information Only None.
