The Pledge of Allegiance was by led by Michael Ledonne. 2.0 Roll Call Present 7 - Dan Militello, Pamela Bedard, Sharon Vish, Ahmed Ali, Barbara Ware, Gladys Piper, and Michael Ledonne Also present: Joe Grage, Lombard Police Deputy Chief and Nicole Aranas, Assistant Village Manager. Chairperson Dan Militello advised the committee that staff liaison, Avis Meade, has taken a new position with Arlington Heights. Hiring of the new Communications Coordinator is currently in process. 3.0 Public Participation None. 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion a was made by Michael Ledonne, second by Pam Bedard, to approve the minutes of the June 14, 2021, committee meeting. The motion was passed unanimously. Village of Lombard Page 1 Community Relations Committee Minutes September 13, 2021 5.0 Old Business None. 6.0 New Business 210285 2021 Senior of the Year Nominations The committee will vote to select the 2021 Senior Man and Woman of the Year. Chairperson Militello reviewed the applications that were submitted for 2021 Senior Man and Woman of the Year. There were 6 applications in total, 4 men and 2 women. For Senior Man the committee chose George Seagraves. Mr. Seagraves was nominated in a prior year and is a local contributor. For Senior Woman the committee chose Patti Comfort. Ms. Comfort received multiple nominations and has been a lifelong Lombardian. A motion was made by Pam Bedard, seconded by Barb Ware, to choose George Seagraves for Senior Man of 2021. The motion was approved unanimously. A motion was made by Michael Ledonne, seconded Sharon Vish, to choose Patti Comfort as Senior Woman of 2021. The motion was approved by all. 210286 2021 Services for Seniors Fair - Post event Overview Summary of the event, vendors and participation of the Services for Seniors event held October 6, 2021. Nicole Aranas reported that the 2021 Senior Fair is being scaled back to primarily focus on the delivery of on-site services for seniors, such as vision, hearing, blood pressure, flu shots, COVID-19 vaccines and other on-site services. The Senior Fair is being re-branded this year as the “Services for Seniors Event”. The committee was supportive of the changes to the 2021 senior fair. 210288 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Discussion concerning public communication regarding the potential purchase of unmanned aerial vehicle. Joe Grage, Deputy Police Chief, made a presentation on drones. Village of Lombard Page 2 Community Relations Committee Minutes September 13, 2021 Drone technology has been out for a while and is being used in many other communities, Lombard would not be the first. He stated that there are many rules regarding the use of the drones by law enforcement. Illinois has a strict drone use law; the drone cannot be used to conduct surveillance. A local application of the drone might include missing persons, natural disasters, crime scene photography, crash investigations, and promotion of events or the community. A motion to recommend approval of the drone purchase and associated communications plan, was made by Barb Ware, second by Ahmed Ali.
