050616 Current Solid Waste Contract - Update
Karls reviewed the tonnage report that was handed out at the meeting. He explained
that he has tried to make the chart more meaningful by providing a comparison of
March 2008 through 2011. He has also included the average, what it means per
pounds per week.
Karls reported that Waste Management will be dropping off two more 2-yard
containers at Yorktown. Gorman added that it is phenomenal that Yorktown and
Waste Management were able to do this. General discussion ensued regarding
recycling at the Yorktown Convenience Center.
Karls also reported on the New Commercial Recycling (Item #110057). Karls
commented that It's a nice package. It allows each account to get a 96-gallon
container picked up weekly. It's too soon in the program to provide any results yet.
Waste Management also provided the same offer in Westmont and it's doing well.
Gorman commented that the new contract that became effective April 1st provided
that anyone can get a 35-gallon container now. Karls added that there has been a
delay, Waste Management is out of the containers right now, however, there have
been well over 25-30 requests. Gorman further commented that there has been a
good response to the clarification of the Meet and Compete Clause.

070424 Clean Air Counts
Gorman informed the committee that Lombard was granted one of three awards for a
State program called Partners for Clean Air. The Director of the EPA handed out the
award. This is principally because of the anti-idling campaign and on Earth Day the
Village had kids handing out key chains at the train station. They wanted to promote
this in other communities. It's a good public education program and it only cost about
$1,000. That's what they wanted to get out there, that communities don't have to
spend a lot of money to make an impact. They also liked the reduced idling in our
fleet. We've realized a 15% fuel savings. The Police Department has done a
fantastic job. That was from the Chief working with the mechanics to handle running
all of the electronics without the squads idling.
110058 2011 Recycling Extravaganza
Jendras said that, although she has done volunteers the past few years, it would be
difficult for her to do this year. She suggested that someone else do it, or it could be
done by all or several committee members. She could provide the password to the
website to any committee members.
Gorman added that there will not be shredding this year. Jendras commented that
she thought someone had mentioned collecting used clothing. Gorman replied that
PADS would like to participate by collecting the clothing.
Chairperson Moreau suggested that the committee wait until the new chairperson
starts before selecting positions.

110057 New Commercial Recycling Program
This item was discussed under item #050616.
110228 Sustainability Award Nomination
Gorman reviewed the nomination submitted by Keith Steiskal from the Building
Division. He thinks this young couple did all the right things. He thought very highly
of their motivation in trying to reuse materials. Cooper commented that he thinks it's
a good candidate for residential. Everything they touch on does somewhat break out
what they follow for the LEED program. It doesn't have the wow factor, but like Keith
said it's attainable and it gets people thinking. Chairperson Moreau asked if the
committee would like to present the award at a Board meeting. The members were
agreeable.
It was moved by Schukat, seconded by Urlaub, that this matter be
recommended to the Board of Trustees for approval. The motion carried by a
voice vote
110229 Recycling Education Grant
A request from Delphi Academy of Chicago in the amount of $365.58.
The committee requested that Delphi be informed to submit the request for
reimbursement prior to June 1st.
