Gerhardt Community Room Environmental Concerns Committee Trustee Mike Fugiel - Chairperson Trustee Reid Foltyniewicz - Alternate Chairperson Diana Lavaque, Nancy Schukat, Winnie Lyons, Darlene Bartt, Jason Cooper, Dustin Smith, Daniel Richardt and Dana Moreau Staff Liaison: Dave Gorman Environmental Concerns Minutes November 27, 2012 Committee 1.0 Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance Meeting called to order by Chairperson Fitzpatrick at 7:00 PM. 2.0 Roll Call Staff in attendance: Dave Gorman and Paul Kuehlenz (Smith arrived at 7:15 PM) Present 8 - Trustee Laura Fitzpatrick, Jennifer Jendras, Diana Lavaque, Nancy Schukat, Winnie Lyons, Darlene Bartt, Jason Cooper, and Dustin Smith 3.0 Public Participation Dan Hildebrand St. Pius X Parish 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Nancy Schukat, seconded by Winnie Lyons, that the minutes be approved . The motion passed by an unanimous vote. 5.0 Unfinished Business 050616 Current Solid Waste Contract - Update The current tonnage sheet was shared with committee members. Gorman: followed up with the Committee's request that he research the Village of Algonquin's commercial recycling ordinance since it had been supposed to mandate recycling. Although it suggests that recycling may be mandated, it actually is not. The administrator there encourages recycling much as we do in Lombard. Also, our Village Attorney advised that Lombard, as a non-home rule community, would not be eligible to enact a similar ordinance. 6.0 New Business 120608 Energy Impact Illinois Program Presentation by Liz Optholt Liz Optholt presented the program, which is funded by a fee on all electric and gas utility bills. There's an alliance of not-for-profits that work with CMAP and the State of Illinois to administer the program. Website is www.energyimpactillinois.org. The extra incentives of reduced cost (reduced from $99 down to $49) and grant amount (increased to $1750.00 from $1250.00 and up to 70% from 50%) is Village of Lombard Page 1 Environmental Concerns Minutes November 27, 2012 Committee expected to expire in May. The program will likely continue after that but at the former cost and grant levels. Gorman: participated and it was very worthwhile. Jason Cooper is scheduled for it soon. There was consensus to promote the program through the PRIDE newsletter and the Village website. 120609 Presentation by Tim Pierce Director of Engineering & Sustainability at the Westin Hotel in Lombard Tim Pierce, Director of Engineering and Sustainability for the Westin Lombard provided handout for his presentation, which covered the many sustainable activities that the hotel staff has undertaken. Full details are provided in the handout. 120610 Sustainability Award Discussion Gorman reviewed the purpose and procedures for recommending an award per the Board of Trustee's policy memo. This recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees per the policy. Motion was made by Nancy Schukat, seconded by Jennifer Jendras that the Westin Lombard receive a Sustainability Award for the many reasons outlaid in their presentation. The motion passed by an unanimous vote. 7.0 Other Business 8.0 Information Only 9.0 Adjournment Motion was made by Nancy Schukat, seconded by Jennifer Jendras to adjourn the meeting at 8:06 PM.
