The flooding was widespread and mostly north of Roosevelt Rd. Brink: once again commended Lombard as the best prepared and organized municipality that Waste Management worked with after the storm. Gorman: this was possible due to policies that had been passed by the Public Works Committee and the Board of Trustees. Also, the Trustees understood the policies and supported staff accordingly. The tonnage reports show a marked uptick in refuse due to the storm cleanup. Brink: commended Lombard for helping to ensure that household hazardous waste was kept out of the dumpsters. Gorman: there is a full pickup truck of that waste that staff still needs to bring to the HHW collection site in Naperville. 6.0 New Business 130308 2013 Recycling Extravaganza - AAR Saturday, September 21, 2013 Gorman: reviewed the draft flyer and site map. The site layout is the same as last year. A note will be added at the bottom of the flyer regarding the HHW site and hours in Naperville. Winnie will distribute posters. She would like 11 X 17 size. Jason will not be able to attend due to a conflict. 7.0 Other Business Chairperson Fugiel had read an article about trees under duress and that they may not necessarily warrant removal. Richardt concurred - especialy in response to a drought. However, ash trees infested with EAB are beyond recovery. Lyons: questioned recycling paper towels and paper products that contained food like paper plates and pizza boxes. Brink: verified that food contamination rules out such materials for recycling. These are the types of things that contribute to the contamination rate in the tonage spreadsheet, which is 2.92% in the past month. Smith: asked if Buckthorn might be declared a nuisance tree per code and forced for removal similar to the Emerald Ash Borer and Dutch Elm Disease? Gorman: explained that EAB and DED are identified because of the direct impact on neighboring properties and the hazard of large weakened or dead trees. Buckthorn is not of similar threat. Lavaque: mentioned that she called Clarke Mosquito after noticing mosquitoes breeding in her backyard catch basin. They came out within a couple of days. Gorman: explained that the Village pays Clarke to treat such private basins with 30-day larvacide pellets - all it takes is a phone call to put a basin on the list. There are currently about 200 such basins that are inspected and treated. The technicians carry materials in backpacks. They come and go so quickly that residents seldom see them. 8.0 Information Only 120558 Certificate(s) of Recycling 9.0 Adjournment A motion was made by Dana Moreau. seconded by Darlene Bartt, that the meeting be adjourned 8:15 PM.
