050616 Current Solid Waste Contract - Update
Mike Brink: presented the waste tonnage spreadsheet to the
committee members. Moreau: questioned how accurate the
contamination rate is and how it is determined. Brink: explained that
it is an average number reported by the recycling center that does not
and really can not specifically relate to Lombard. Gorman: has talked
with Mike Brink about scheduling a tour of Waste Management's
landfill and recycling center. Calendars were coordinated at the
meeting for possibly 11/19 or 11/20. Brink: will check with those
facility managers and confirm with Dave Gorman to relay to committee
members. Gorman: asked if there were any comments on the draft
Solid Waste Reference Guide? Richardt: suggested adding that
residents may also ask for a 96-gal recycling toter. Gorman: will be
placing this Guide in the next issue of the PRIDE.

alkaline batteries. They do not. They told him, and their website also
states, that those batteries should just be discarded in the trash.
Gorman: has worked out an arrangement with P.A. Crimson, a fire
services company in Lombard, to accept all types of tanks at the next
Recycling Extravaganza. These include fire extinguishers, natural
gas, scuba, etc. and they do not have to be empty. In addition,
Goodwill agreed to accept reusable furniture and white goods.
130478 Fall Cleanup & Invasive Species Removal on IPP & GWT on
11/9/2013
Gorman: will coordinate volunteers over the next week. Mike Fugiel,
Jason Cooper, Dustin Smith and Paul Kuehlenz will help too.
130546 Sustainability Framework
Review Institute for Local Governments Framework
Gorman: asked if members had questions on or suggestions for
Lombard's Sustainability Framework based on a review of the Institute
for Local Government's model framework. Fugiel: asked the
committee to hold this item and discuss it at the next meeting in order
to allow more time to prepare. Gorman: suggested that residential
energy programs be a main focus for the upcoming year since there
are generous State grants that are easily accessed but underutilized.
Besides reducing our carbon footprint, these grant programs would
improve our housing stock and save residents money.
7.0 Other Business
Schukat: shared a thank you letter from Hines Hospital for allowing
them to once again collect books at the Recycling Extravaganza.
Moreau: stated that she would like to receive an electronic version of
the agenda packets only. She did not receive the e-mailed packet last
week.
8.0 Information Only
Cooper: distributed a brochure for the proposed improvements at
Hammerschmidt School.
