donated a painting to the Lombard Historical Society.
2. Commissioner Mueller announced that the Oakbrook Terrace
Historical Society will have a special exhibit in November
featuring Dispensa’s Kiddie Kingdom & Castle of Toys.
Preservation of buildings in the downtown
Commissioner Myers stated that there appears to be three historic
buildings for sale at and near the intersection of St. Charles Road
and Main Street. The buildings in question include 2-10 W. St.
Charles Road; 1-5 E. St. Charles Road and 9-17 N. Main Street. All
are included in the 2014 Architectural and Historical Survey.
Chairperson Schneider indicated some options to consider such as
the City of Wheaton has a provision that no demolition permit can be
issued without a simultaneous building permit for a new
development and all building permits fees for historic buildings are
waived. Other options could be creating a historic district to pause
possible demolition or seeking National Register of Historic Places
status for access to possible programs or grants.
Chairperson Schneider suggested inviting Bill Heniff, Director of
Community Development for an update on the downtown. Also she
will contact Douglas Gilbert, author of the Architectural and Historical
Surveys and Mark Stoner, Ratio, author of the application for
National Register of Lilacia Park for input.
Commissioner O’Donnell suggested making the process easy and
provide assistance.
Chairperson Schneider congratulated Commissioner Myers on the
article she wrote about the q code for the Illinois Prairie Path signs in
the summer issue of the Quarterly Journal of the National Alliance of
Preservation Commissions.
Adjournment
On a motion by Commissioner Poskocil and seconded by Commissioner Myers
and all were in favor, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
