Chairman's Remarks
The Chairperson had no remarks to present.
Reports
A. Finance - Richard Anstee
At this time in comparison to the budgets in the past at the end of the
first quarter, the Historical Society is underbudget by approximately
$27,000. The two factors contributing to this are: Public Works has
stopped billings and the salary slippage between the past Executive
Director and the newly hired Executive Director.
B. Local Landmarks - Eileen Mueller
Eileen Mueller reported that the subcommittee of the Local Landmarks
Committee has identified 103 sites to be analyzed by Douglas Gilbert,
the consultant hired to update the Historic Sites and Structures
Inventory that was last updated in 1990 with 38 sites listed. Of the 38
sites listed in 1990, several will be removed from the list because they
have since been torn down.
Progress continues on the signage for the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin
Railroad along the Prairie Path with an expected completion by the
end of the year.
C. Personnel - Pat Poskocil
The new Executive Director for the Historical Society, Natalie Gacek,
was introduced and her input at future Commission meeting will
always be welcome and appreciated.
D. Ex-Officio Report - Leslie Sulla
Leslie Sulla reported on the Lombard Historical Society’s activities
including:
• The new Executive Director, Natalie Gacek was welcomed on
March 4th.

• The Historical Society will be hosting the second annual fashion
show fundraiser, Sunday, April 27 from 1:30 - 4p.m. at St.
John’s Lutheran Church. Tickets are $30 and include a light

• A new exhibit is on display at the Carriage House entitled 175
Years of Visualizing Lombard with paintings, artifacts and Jens
Jenson’s original Lilacia Park blueprints.
• Lilac Time is from May 3rd through May 17th. The Historical
Society will be offering tours of Lilacia Park on Saturdays and
Sundays at 2p.m. and Tuesdays through Fridays at 11a.m.
Tours begin at the Victorian Cottage and are $3 per person.
• Facilities: there has been no movement on fixing the drainage
issues at the Peck House due to weather, squirrels have
invaded the attic portion of the Carriage House and animal
control will contacted.
• Community Relations: A letter from the archives will be read at
the Memorial Day program, staff attended the Tiara
Presentation for the 2014 Lilac Princesses, the March PR
Power Hour and presentations at Humana’s programs open to
the public. Over 800 likes on Facebook.
• Other: Plans are underway for Peckapalooza to celebrate Peck
Homestead’s 175th birthday sometime in August that may
include a Peck family reunion. Attendance at the Second
Sunday programs has been sporadic.
• Attendance: In February 111 at the Victorian Cottage; 1276 at
the Peck Homestead. In March 155 at the Victorian Cottage;
140 at the Peck Homestead.
E. Lombard Cemetery - Tom Fetters
In anticipation of the Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony on
May 26th at the Lombard Cemetery, the last remaining veterans’ stone
will be installed and an Eagle Scout, Daniel Kaylor, will be planting ten
trees on May 10th as well as general cleanup with other scouts. The
boys will be served lunch at the cemetery by the VFW Lilac Lodge
Women’s Auxiliary.

G. Heritage Award - Lyn Myers
Lyn Myers distributed a list of categories for the award. The
Commission discussed consolidating some of the categories, for
example Advocacy, Leadership and Stewardship into one and
reworking the New Construction description. Plans are underway to
submit an article to the June Pride newsletter to solicit nominations.
Planner's Report
Tami Urish distributed copies of the General Provisions for the Open
Meetings Act. Discussing Commission business with all
Commissioners via email is a violation of the Act.
Unfinished Business
The weather is preventing work on the Peck Homestead’s basement.
New Business
Marcy Novak suggested that the Commission investigate if there will
be an opportunity to place historical photo displays within arcades as
part of the underpass project of Park Avenue and the Union Pacific
Railroad. Staff was directed to contact the Director of Public Works,
Carl Goldsmith about the viability of this idea.
Marcy Novak suggested developing a booklet or compilation listing the
names of the past winners of the Woman of the Year and Man of the
Year as a historical record.
Staff was directed to ask the Director of Community Development, Bill
Heniff, if photos of the local landmarks could be permanently
displayed in a prominent location in Village Hall.
Adjournment
The next meeting will be held on July 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall.
On a motion by Pat Poskocil and seconded by Richard Anstee, and all were in
favor, the meeting was adjourned at 8:33 p.m.
