Village of Lombard Village Hall 255 East Wilson Ave. Lombard, IL 60148 villageoflombard.org Minutes Monday, January 13, 2014 7:00 PM Village Hall - Village Managers Conf Rm Transportation & Safety Committee Trustee Reid Foltyniewicz - Chairperson Trustee Mike Fugiel - Alternate Chairperson Michael Corso, John Larkin, John Schwarz, Bob Corbino, Jerry Schaefer, Jennifer Perkins, Gary Cation and John Mullins Staff Liaisons: Deputy Chief Tom Wirsing - Police Department and Matthew Lew - Public Works Department Transportation & Safety Committee Minutes January 13, 2014 1.0 Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Foltyniewicz at 7:00 p.m. 2.0 Roll Call Present 8 - Trustee Reid Foltyniewicz, Michael Corso, John Larkin Jr., Bob Corbino, Jerry Shaefer, Jennifer Perkins, Gary Cation, and John Mullins Absent 1 - John Schwarz Staff Present: Dave Dratnol, Village Engineer Matt Lew, Civil Engineer Tom Wirsing, Deputy Chief 3.0 Public Participation Dana Moreau on behalf of Pleasant Lane School Chairperson Foltyniewicz rearranged the agenda to discuss item 140029 first to accomodate the resident in attendance. 140029 Berkshire Avenue at Charlotte Street Request to replace temporary stop signs with permanent stop signs. (DISTRICT #4) Dana Moreau explained that currently a temporary stop sign is used on school days during designated hours. However, many people are missing the sign and blowing through it. In looking at the MUTCD for school areas, it recommends consistency in signage. The school is also used during non-school hours for other activities and there is a playground there. Chairperson Foltyniewicz asked if it's done like this anywhere else in town. Wirsing replied that it is not. Cation asked if kids are let out on both sides of the school. Moreau answered that they are. General discussion ensued regarding temporary stop signs. A motion was made by Gary Cation, seconded by Michael Corso, that this Request be recommend to the Board of Trustees for Approval . The motion passed by an unanimous vote. Village of Lombard Page 1 Transportation & Safety Committee Minutes January 13, 2014 4.0 Approval of Minutes A motion was made by John Larkin, Jr., seconded by Gary Cation, that the Minutes of the November 11, 2013 meeting be approved. The motion carried unanimously. 5.0 Unfinished Business 130578 Patrick Drive and Cimarron Road Intersection A resident request to install Yield or Stop signs. (DISTRICT #1) Wirsing reported that he had someone there and the documentation states there were no cars. The sight lines are different there and there is a curve to slow people down. Police staff will check it out again after it warms up outside and more people are out. Tabled for 6 months. 6.0 New Business 7.0 Other Business There was discussion regarding left turns from westbound Roosevelt into Walgreens by Highland Avenue. Mullins commented that the left turn signal for Meyers onto Butterfield is too short. Dratnol said he will contact IDOT. Chairperson Foltyniewicz commented that the northbound Finley onto westbound Roosevelt traffic gets extremely backed up. He suggested that an additional left turn lane be added. Dratnol explained that there is not enough right-of-way to do that. There would have to be wider receiving lanes so Roosevelt so the roadway itself would have to be modified. Corso asked what projects the Village is doing this year. Dratnol answered; Lombard Meadows, which includes Chase Lane & Chase Court, reconstruction. It will be a 5 phase project and this is the first phase. 8.0 Information Only 9.0 Adjournment A motion was made by John Larkin, Jr., seconded by Jerry Schaefer, to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m. The motion carried unanimously.
