Approval of the Minutes
Item(s)
(1) Possible presentation by current and former LAUSD Board of Education
members relative to Board member responsibilities, time commitments,
compensation, and related matters.
Current Board members Scott Schmerelson and Kelly Gonez provided comments
relative to their experience as Board members including responsibilities, time
commitment, compensation, and addressed questions from the Committee.
(2) Presentation by Michael McLean, Executive Officer, LAUSD Board of
Education, relative to Board member responsibilities, salaries, and related
matters.
Alex Molina, LAUSD General Counsel, presented information relative to Board
member responsibilities, salaries, and answers to questions posed by the
Committee.
(3) Discussion with the Chief Legislative Analyst’s Office and other City staff
relative to salary information, compensation data, and related matters.
Andrea Galvin, CLA’s Office, presented information relative to salary information,
compensation data, and related matters.
(4) Discussion and possible action relative to a resolution establishing the
compensation for Members of the Los Angeles Unified School District
Board of Education, pursuant to Los Angeles City Charter Section 804.
Members provided personal opinions on how the Resolution should move forward
and proceeded to create an Ad Hoc Committee and set a Special Meeting date.
Motion (Saleh – Martinez) to create an Ad Hoc Committee composed of
Commissioners WoodsGray, Ruiz, and Martinez – (7) Yes
Special Meeting date: Monday, April 17, 2023 at 5:00PM.
Adjournment
Members provided personal opinions on how the Resolution should move forward
and proceeded to create an Ad Hoc Committee and set a Special Meeting date.

Comments by the public on agenda items and on all other matters within the subject matter jurisdiction
of the Commission will be heard during the "Public Comments" period of the meeting. Members of the
public who wish to speak on Agendized items shall be allowed to speak for up to two minutes per item,
and one minute on NonAgendized items, up to a total of five minutes per meeting. Given the logistical
limitations of interconnecting two independent virtual meeting spaces, once every member of the public
has been given the opportunity to be heard, further public comment will not be possible at this meeting.

PUBLIC INPUT AT COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Members of the public who wish to speak on one or multiple items shall have an opportunity to speak for a limited amount of time
per item, and up to a limited total amount of time for multiple agenda items. The Committee’s chairperson or designee will
announce at the meeting the time speakers are allowed peritem and the total time allowed for multiple items. At regular meetings,
members of the public shall also have an opportunity to speak up to one minute for general public comment on any matter within the
subjectmatter jurisdiction of the Committee. The Committee is not required to take general public comment at special meetings.
The Committee may limit the total amount of time for public comment on any specific agenda item, on all agendaitems collectively,
and/or on general public comment, based on the anticipated time required to hear from public speakers on any given or all agenda
items, on the availability of Committee members and the need to maintain quorum, and on any other relevant factor. The Committee
shall not discuss or take action relative to any general public comment except as explicitly permitted under the Brown Act.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS RELAY SERVICE (TRS) COMMUNICATIONS
Individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, and individuals with a speech disability, may be able to avail themselves of both for
peertopeer and thirdparty telecommunications relay service (TRS) communications. Telecommunications Relay Service is a
telephone service that allows persons with hearing or speech disabilities to place and receive telephone calls. TRS is available in
all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories for local and/or long distance calls. TRS providers
generally telephone companies are compensated for the costs of providing TRS from either a state or a federal fund. There is no
cost to the TRS user.
What forms of TRS are available? There are several forms of TRS, depending on the particular needs of the user and the equipment
available: TRS includes: Text to Voice TIYBased TRS; SpeechtoSpeech Relay Service; Shared NonEnglish Language Relay
Service; Captioned Telephone Relay Service; Internet Protocol Relay Service; and Video Relay Service. Please visit this site for detail

Don't hang up! Some people hang up on TRS calls because they think the caller is a telemarketer. If you hear, "Hello, this is the relay
service…" when you pick up the phone, please don't hang up! You are about to talk, through a TRS provider, to a person who is deaf,
hardofhearing, or has a speech disability.
