CITY OF MONROE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES DATE: WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2026 TIME: 1:00 PM PLACE: COUNCIL CHAMBERS - 1110 18TH AVENUE A. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The Historic Preservation meeting was called to order on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Present at roll call were Corrine Wartenweiler, Donna Bahler, Jordan Norby, Tom Mitchell, and Mary Soddy. Absent were Aaron Holverson and Jeff Maliszewski. B. ELECTION OF CHAIR & VICE CHAIR Mary Soddy motioned to nominate Jeff Maliszewski as Chairperson, seconded by Jordan Nordby. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote. Mary Soddy motioned to nominate Jordan Nordby as Vice-Chairperson, seconded by Tom Mitchell. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote C. CORRECTION OF MINUTES - MARCH 11, 2026 March 11, 2026 minutes were accepted as presented. D. BUSINESS: OPEN 1. Review and Approval of Facade Grant Applications Recommended by the Main Street Monroe Design Committee Motion by Mary Soddy, seconded by Donna Bahler, to approve the façade grant application for the Treats Block property. Motion passed on a voice vote, with Jordan Nordby abstaining. Motion by Mary Soddy, seconded by Donna Bahler, to approve the façade grant application for the White Block property. Motion passed on a voice vote, with Jordan Nordby abstaining. Motion by Mary Soddy, seconded by Tom Mitchell, to approve the façade grant application for the Chocolate Tempations property. Motion passed on a voice vote, with Jordan Nordby abstaining. Motion by Mary Soddy, seconded by Donna Bahler, to approve the façade grant application for the Monroe Arts Center property. Motion passed on a voice vote, with Jordan Nordby abstaining. Motion by Mary Soddy, seconded by Tom Mitchell, to approve the façade grant application for the 1118 17th Ave property. Motion passed on a voice vote, with Jordan Nordby abstaining. Motion by Mary Soddy, seconded by Corrine Wartenweiler, to send the application back to the applicant to obtain a second quote for the painting project. Motion passed on a voice vote, with Jordan Nordby abstaining. 2. Update Regarding City of Monroe Pursuing Federal Historic Preservation Funding 2027 Grant to Certified Local Governments for an Initial Intensive Survey of the Community Historic Resources Administrator Rindy provided an update on the City’s historic survey efforts and discussed a potential grant program that could help fund the survey process to identify additional historic background and properties throughout the City. E. BUSINESS BY MEMBERS There was discussion regarding the sign for the new business located on the southeast corner of the Square, as well as upcoming painting work planned for Joanne’s Dress Shop building. F. ADJOURNMENT Motion by Corrine Wartenweiler, and seconded by Tom Mitchell to adjourn at 1:41 PM. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote. This Commission may take any ac tion it considers appropriate related to any item on this agenda.
