CITY OF MONROE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES DATE: TUESDAY, MAY 26, 2026 TIME: 4:50 PM PLACE: COUNCIL CHAMBERS - 1110 18TH AVENUE A. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL The Public Safety Committee meeting was called to order on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 4:55 PM. Present in person were Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, and Darlene Voelkli. B. CORRECTION OF MINUTES - MAY 11, 2026 The May 11, 2026, minutes were accepted as presented. C. BUSINESS PRESENTED BY POLICE DEPARTMENT 1. Discussion and Possible Recommendation to Common Council Green County Cheese Days, Inc's Cheese Days Event Chief Kelly provided a summary of the event and noted a few changes from last year. He also spoke regarding the request to allow open containers during the event. Alder Wartenweiler stated she would support approval of the event but objected to allowing open containers and the liquor license portion of the request. A motion was made by Voelkli, seconded by Sheaffer, to approve and recommend to Common Council. The motion passed 3-0, by the following vote: AYES: Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Darlene Voelkli NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAINED: None 2. Discussion and Possible Recommendation to Common Council for Move It Forward's Summer Series' Special Event Application A motion was made by Wartenweiler, seconded by Voelkli, to approve and recommend to Common Council. The motion passed 3-0, by the following vote: AYES:Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Darlene Voelkli NOES:None ABSENT:None ABSTAINED: None 3. Discussion and Possible Recommendation to Common Council the Green County Latino Health Fair A motion was made by Voelkli, seconded by Wartenweiler, to approve and recommend to Common Council. The motion passed 3-0, by the following vote: AYES:Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Darlene Voelkli NOES:None ABSENT:None ABSTAINED: None 4. Discussion and Possible Recommendation to Common Council Regarding Special Event Permit for Cactus & Co "Cheers Bartel's" Fundraising Event A motion was made by Voelkli, seconded by Wartenweiler, to approve and recommend to Common Council. The motion passed 3-0, by the following vote: AYES:Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Darlene Voelkli NOES:None ABSENT:None ABSTAINED: None D. BUSINESS BY MEMBERS Alder Sheaffer stated he had spoken with Chief Rufer regarding the fire on the Square and expressed interest in receiving additional information once reports become available. Chief Rufer stated that once the investigation is completed, the information could be presented to the committee. E. ADJOURNMENT A motion was made by Wartenweiler, seconded by Voelkli, to adjourn at 5:16 PM. The motion passed 3-0, by the following vote: AYES: Corinne Wartenweiler, Matt Sheaffer, Darlene Voelkli NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAINED: None This Committee may take any action it considers appropriate related to any item on this agenda.
