Emerson St., 847-391-6000 or djarosz@mountprospect.org Page 1 of 8 Village of Mount Prospect Special Events Commission Meeting Minutes – January 5, 2026 Mount Prospect Village Hall Members in Attendance: Brian Lambel (Chair), Katie Cousino, Chris Gordon, Patti Quill, Bill Grimpe, Jeannie Macatangay, Vicki Chung, Christina Greco, Fred Steinmiller, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison) Absent: Daniel Okafor, Denise Peterson, Hazel Oreluk, Alan Cervenka 1.​ Call to Order at 7:07pm 2.​ Citizens to be Heard a.​ None 3.​ Approval of Minutes T a.​ Motion to approve the December 1, 2026, meeting minutes by Commissioner Greco; Second by Commissioner Chung i.​ In Favor – All ii.​ Opposed – None 4.​ Financial Report AF a.​ Motion to approve December 2025 financial report by Commissioner Grimpe; Second by Commissioner Macatangay b.​ In Favor – All c.​ Opposed – None 5.​ Old Business a.​ Holiday House Decorating Contest Recap i.​ In Commissioner Oreluk’s absence, Chairperson Lambel read a report from Commissioner Oreluk aloud to the Commission. ii.​ Commissioner Oreluk reported that the contest received 34 individual R home applications and 2 block applications. No businesses registered to participate. 102 votes were cast for the "People's Choice Award," and 22 houses received votes. iii.​ Commissioner Grimpe stated that the map was not mobile friendly and was difficult to read. D iv.​ Commissioner Chung inquired about the preference of People’s Choice voting on Facebook or through the map application. This will be considered for the next Halloween Decorating Contest. v.​ The contest winners will be recognized at the Village Board meeting tomorrow night. b.​ 2025-26 Shining Star Awards & Gala i.​ Commissioner Quill reported that the number of attendees is currently at 222. The Commission agreed that a total of 350 is a comfortable maximum number for the Gala. ii.​ Liaison Cerk mentioned that early bird tickets have ended, and she will do another push for ticket sales before the deadline. iii.​ Chairperson Lambel reported that he dropped off sponsorship information to groups around town and confirmed Nicholas & Associates, the Mount Prospect Lions Club, Vince Dante Baird & Warner, Peterson Roofing, Page 2 of 8 Busse Auto, and the River Trails Park District. Commissioner Chung secured commitment from Hi-Five Sports. Commissioner Quill secured commitment from Pulsation Yoga. iv.​ The Commission agreed to move the sponsorship deadline to January 12. v.​ The Commission decided on the winners arriving at 5:45 for pictures. vi.​ Commissioner Cousino brainstormed ideas to quiet down the crowd when presentations start, such as having the Mayor remind the group during his speech and having roaming volunteers, possibly with signs, address tables individually. vii.​ Commissioner Macatangay volunteered to work on getting professional nametags for the Commissioners. viii.​ Commissioner Quill is ready to place the order for the awards, and she requested the final invoice for the band to be delivered in hand at the Gala. ix.​ Chairperson Lambel volunteered to take care of any extra meals left over T at the Gala. He will arrange with first responders. x.​ The group discussed slightly changing the presentation format for when the award winners are announced. Liaison Cerk will send out the presentation template to be updated. 6.​ New Business AF a.​ 2025 Year in Review i.​ The Commission listed out all events from 2025, with the inclusion of new initiative Kindness Week.
