The MAC’s 10th anniversary is this year! The actual establishment date was May 23, 2016, and the
first meeting was on August 16, 2016. QUESTION: Do we want to do a social media post on our
actual "birthday"?
There is ongoing discussion about doing something to celebrate or honor the milestone:
Banners: Public Works said they will print us parade float banners (two 1x14’s) and a banner for the
back of our pop-up tent (9’ x 60”). They can also print us any 2’x3’ signs we want for sandwich boards
to have at events. No cost for in-house printing.
T-Shirts: Dannielle has done some preliminary research on t-shirts for the MAC through Ultimate
Screen Printing in Mundelein. The budget is around $400. At the last meeting, the MAC agreed to do
screen printed tees in a black or almost-black shade. The graphic will feature the MAC logo on the
front in full color (small on left chest) and a larger single-color graphic on the back listing major
accomplishments and projects.
Erin has ordered samples of two different soft-style shirts in two colors each. They are expected to
arrive Monday or Tuesday. If they arrive Monday, we will bring them to the meeting.

Background:
The next step for Lure of the Local is to develop an application form. This year, we hope to create a
form that efficiently translates to curation, artist emailing, and label creation. Stacee has announced
the theme for Lure of the Local 2026: "Love Letters". Staff is working on a thematic graphic to go with
a "save the date" posting. Write up:
LURE OF THE LOCAL 5 / LOVE LETTERS
MAC 10th Anniversary Year
Dear Artists and Community Members,
Lure of the Local 5 is on the Horizon! This year the Mundelein Arts Commission is Celebrating its 10th
Anniversary! The Lure of the Local Series is a curated art exhibition highlighting local artists, makers,
and performers. We are pleased to announce this year’s theme: Love Letters.
From the quiet anticipation of writing a love letter to the joy of receiving one, this simple act
captures something deeply human. Few things express longing, connection, and vulnerability quite
like it—art offers a powerful way to explore those emotions.
Let this theme be a springboard for your own interpretation of what Love Letters mean to you. Your
subject might be a person, a pet, a garden, a season, a favorite meal, or even a fleeting moment.
What you love—and how you choose to honor it—is each artist's unique vision.
In this fast-paced age of texting, the idea of a love letter is nostalgic and tactile, present. What makes
you pause in awe? What image or thing can truly embody love? Is love a fairy tale or fantasy? What
artistic process do you lose yourself in like falling in love?
New this year: We are looking for proposals for a community artwork that will be interactive and
engage our visitors of all ages. Official *FREE* Applications will open by June 15, 2026. Artists of any
Page 14 of 39
medium may apply. The exhibition will open Oct 16, 2026. PORTALS Artist Residencies will be
announced soon.
The exhibition and residency will take place at the Archer Business Center, same location as the
previous year (175 N. Archer, Mundelein).
Allison Hausladen Workshop
One other update – Allison Hausladen asked whether the MAC would be open to hosting a repeat of
her mobile workshop Watercolors at Courtland Commons. It was an outdoor watercolor painting
workshop of the wildlife at Courtland Commons, featuring a guest speaker (Amanda Orenchuk) who
spoke about the development of the stormwater basin and park. The original workshop was sparsely
attended due to weather and late notice planning. If the MAC is interested in hosting Allison again
(outside of the structure of Lure of the Local), it would be helpful to have one commissioner assigned
to liaising with Allison. She is self-sufficient, but will need assistance choosing a date and developing
messaging for social media. UPDATE: No action on this yet.

extension. Either way, we have processed her 2nd payment of $8,500 so that it comes out of the
current fiscal year budget. We are holding the check until installation.
She continues to share regular YouTube videos from her channel about its making, found

Aurelia, Dannielle, and Sue are working with The Kirk Players on logistics for this year’s Summer
Shakespeare Shorts collaboration. They will report on any other updates.
The performance will be held on August 21, 22, and 23 at the Kracklauer Park gazebo. The August
23rd performance will double as the Summer Concert Series feature for that week, and will be

Subject: Mundelein Grand Prix
Financial Impact:

None
Background:
The Mundelein Grand Prix is scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026. The MAC purchased anticipated
supplies out of the previous year budget:
• Spray chalk from Blick - $516.46
• Stick chalk from Eternity Arts - $107.95
• Cowbells from PPP (color: pink) - $825.54
The only other costs expected would be additional spray chalk (if the current supply doesn't match
the artists' actual selection) and the honorariums for the crosswalk art.
Staff is working on the form and announcement for the crosswalk art opportunities. It is expected to
go live by the end of May. There will be 4 available spots.
Colleen B. has assisted with finding singers for the national anthem (one for Men's Pro Race and one
for Women's Pro Race).

Tony Cannoli S'Mural Update
• Ava McQuain is the chosen artist for the mural at Tony Cannoli.
• Honorarium: $1,100 (artist must purchase materials, MAC will prime wall). This will come out
of the MAC's budget.
• Ava is currently away at school and intends to complete the mural over the summer. We need
a W-9 form from her to proceed with a payment, but we have not heard back from her in a
while.
East Hawley S'Murals Update
• Two murals are proposed on East Hawley Street:
1. West wall of 662 E. Hawley (Dragon Star/Nana's Rum Cakes)
2. East wall of 444 E. Hawley (American Patriot Store)
• Honorarium: $1,500 each. This is funded by the Communications and Marketing Manager, not
the MAC.
• Chris, Colleen M., and the marketing manager met to narrow the selection down to two
artists. Staff will be reaching out to the property owners to get approval of the artwork before
getting in touch with the selected artists.
• This project was originally intended to be done within the FY2026 budget, but was not able to
move quickly enough. The murals will likely take place over the summer.

Ideally, all three of the S’Murals could be installed around the same time to create efficiencies and
market them simultaneously as one project.

Background:
At the January meeting, Seth brought background details provided by the organizers of the Set Sail
North festival and the record sale fair. He has been in contact with Tighthead Brewing Company, and
will report on any updates. Seth has also reached out to MCC, as the available date (September 20)
coincides with the 2nd day of the Mundelein Arts Festival. Some discussion items from the last
meeting:
• How to take tickets - have someone posted in the hallway leading to the side room?
• Tighthead can plan to reserve a food truck for that day.
• Should we provide a small stipend for the musicians?
• Should a drink ticket come with admission?
• The cost to rent a sound system will be about $500.
• Colleen M. needs to talk to the Finance Dept. about the financial logistics (i.e. how to take in
donations via sold tickets and then donate it to the Fremont Food Pantry).
Seth and Chris have also been coordinating a new music-themed Farmers Market week, involving
vinyl record sale booths. They will report on any updates.

Background:
At a previous meeting, Chris introduced the idea for “Art Pantries”, similar to the “Free Little
Libraries” concept (take artwork, leave artwork). The MAC should continue to explore this idea
further. Chris has spoken to the Tool Library, who is interested in partnering and will get back to her.
There are hundreds of patterns online. Chris will talk to Public Works next about logistics.

Background:
There have been a number of organizational changes to the Mundelein Arts Festival. In summary:
• The Mundelein Park and Recreation District will no longer be involved in the Arts Festival.
• Mundelein Community Connection (MCC) is taking over organization.
• Adler Arts Center is taking over artist outreach and organization.
• The MAC (Stacee) will take on artwork jurying in partnership with the Adler Arts Center.
There was some interest in a MAC booth at the festival, so the commission should discuss logistics.
