CALL TO ORDER
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Historical Commission was held on Wednesday,
October 1, 2025. Chairperson Flynn called the meeting to order at 9:02 AM.

• Tracey Skinner commented on how well the Cemetery Walk went.
• Elaine Farrar said she is interested in history and expressed her interest in
becoming a docent.
• Jeanne Steffens was unable to attend the Cemetery Walk and requested a copy of
the script; discussed Grayslake's cemetery walk focusing on local businesses and
Grayslake Library programs; suggested Colin McCrae, Russell Rouse,Greg Peleska,
and Bruce Niemi as possible inclusions the museum's Day of The Dead Display

Lure of the Local - Postcard Installation
General discussion of Lure of the Local and the Commission's display of historic
postcards beginning on October 17, 2025 and continuing for one month.
Ivanhoe Cemetery Walk - Septemer 27, 2025 and October 1, 2025
The Cemetery Walk had a total attendance of 103 with several no-shows; discussion of
how to distribute the funds donated funds, agreed on $100.00 to the church, $125 to
the Museum's fund.
Day of the Dead / All Hallows Eve - Display
Day of the Dead: decorate on Saturday, October 18, 2025, celebrate on October 25,
2025 and 29, 2025. Commissioner Zander will decorate the exterior for the fall.
Radio Shows
Radio Show: Two radio shows in October on the 25, 2025 and October 29, 2025,
different show each day.
MUSEUM OPERATIONS
Archiving
Archiving: Continuing need to review files about local people to determine how to
display.
Facility Maintenanc / Landscape Installations
Facility Maintenance: The new roof has been installed; basement repair has not yet
been scheduled; it was suggested MPRD be requested to trim the overgrown vegitation
along the Seavey Drainage Ditch so the Museum can be seen by passersby.
Collections: Accessioning / De-accessioning
Motion to accept recommendations for accessioning and de-accessioning.
Accessions: General discussion regarding accession of the 1926 Illinois license plate
presented by Commissioner Baur; a late 1800s doll and doll parasol presented by
Commissioner Zander, childrens book published in 1913 and republished in 1930; book
written by two brothers who lived in Mundelein and wrote the book about Mundelein;
six hardbound lesson books from the Sheldon School: need more space for Deed of Gift
storage, possibly on Village website?

July 2, 2025. Chairperson Flynn called the meeting to order at 9:00 AM.

Jeanne Steffens commented on the following items:
• Suggested the Commission consider expanding Saturday hours during the summer,
possibly adding crafts for kids and lemonade and cookies;
• The radio program at Fremont library was successful, 60+ attendees, MHC was not
mentioned, no brochures were handed out;
• Offered loan of Brownie camera for use in school presentations;
• Has been unable to confirm the existence of an airport in the area of Route 60 and
Midlothian Road.

PUBLIC COMMENTARY
• Jeanne Steffens commented on the Grayslake Historical, Come & Share program,
which is similar to Story Corps, visited the Long Grove Historical Society's open
house, which is in an old house and contains a lot of old paper archives, but no
artifacts, inquired about the previous names of the original Mundelein Gale Street
Inn and Elly's restaurants.
• Elijan Rupczynski advised he was present in pursuit of his Scouts Communication
Merit Badge. He is part of Green Oaks Pack 194.
• Mason Rupczynski advised he was present in support of his brother and to see
how the Commission worked. He added they live in Countryside Lake.
• Tracie Skinner advised she has applied for the open position on the Commission
and provided her background information.

Had 53 people sign the Museum register at the Birthday Bash, band was good, cake
was good, Scouts did good job at flag raising.
Frie Truck Show - August 9, 2025
Reminders: Fire Truck festival at Tighthead August 9th, Farmer's Market on August
23rd, Cemetery Walk on September 27th
Ivanhoe Cemetery Walk - September 27, 2025 and October 1, 2025
Cemetery Walk: general discussion regarding having to conduct the walk, it was
decided we will use the same procedure as last year. Registration will begin September
1, 2025, through the Village website as was done last year, with the first rehearsal on
August 10, 2025, at St. Andrew's Church, 10 South Lake Street. Ray Wells, who is
included in this walk, home at 422 North Seymour Avenue, still stands.

Jeanne Steffens:
• The Wauconda sound system is a microphone connected to a bullhorn.
• There is a Countryside Golf poster on display at the Union Railroad Museum in
Union, Illinois.
• General discussion on whether it may be available or desirable to acquire.
Commissioner Baur will investigate and advise at a future meeting.
• Spoke to MPRD guitarist who has played at the Farmer's Market about playing
railroad songs at the museum. He expressed interest in doing so, but is not
available on Saturdays.
Tracey Skinner:
• Has submitted an application for the open Commissioner position and is attending
to observe.

After discussion, it was agreed to eliminate docents who consistently failed to appear
for scheduled shifts without notice.
Ivanhoe Cemetery Walk - September 27, 2025 and October 1, 2025
65 participants have signed up, and a maximum of 70 for each performance, each
docent-led group will have twelve participants. Actors have requested that no sound
system be used. Will need one table and two chairs from the Museum for the sign-in
table. Docent walkthrough Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Cemetery.

Commission Vacancy - Applications
A second application has been received for the open position on the Commission. After
discussion, it was decided to set September 30, 2015, as the cutoff for the submission
of applications, with a date for meeting with the applicants to be set at the October 1,
2025, regular meeting of the Commission.
