Old # 1 Fire Truck Preservation Committee October 21, 2024 Meeting Minutes CALL TO ORDER MINUTES APPROVAL Approval of the September 16, 2024 Minutes OLD BUSINESS Treasurer's Report - Wendy The report was presented. There is $2,000.00 for our Scholarship fund and $20,215.66 in the account for a total of $22,215.66. Membership - Open position has been posted to the Village's website. Review applications. The open position has been advertised in the Village newsletter each week. No additional applications have been received. We have an application from Mr. Darrell Hughes, a retired Mundelein Public works employee. A motion was presented and approved to request that the Village amend the rules for membership on the Old Number One committee to allow former Village public works or fire department employees to be allowed to join the committee even if they do not live in Mundelein. This motion will be presented to the Village Board for consideration. A motion was presented to approve Darrell Hughes to continue the process of becoming a member of the Old Number One Committee, pending on the Village making the necessary change to the rules. Events Review • Farmer's Market - September 28, 2024 - Jerry • Fire Department Open House - September 29, 2024 - Eli • There was low attendance at the September 28, 2024, Farmer's Market as it was a bit cool, and it is the last one of the year.  • Fire Department Open House on September 29, 2024, was very well attended. NEW BUSINESS 100th Anniversary Events • Village Trustees Robin Meier and Tim Wilson will be attending the meeting. • Beginning conversations about next year's Old Number One's 100th Anniversary celebrations. o Should it be 100th Anniversary or 100th Birthday? o 100th Logo? o Special 100th Committee member clothing (shirts, hats, etc.)? o Ideas for handouts? Cost? Quantities? o 100th Events - January, March/April, June, July, August, September, Thanksgiving/Holidays, at Seminary? Old Number One 100th ANNIVERSARY EVENTS: We had the village Trustees, Robin Meier and Tim Wilson in attendance. They provided some good ideas as to what we should do for the 100th celebration and possible ways to finance some of the cost. The first discussion was; do we call the event the 100th anniversary or 100th birthday, 100 Anniversary was approved. Bob S presented a list of possible events we will attend next year, and we discussed which ones we would consider handing out items pertaining to the anniversary (this list is attached). 100th ANNIVERSARY LOGO: Bob presented some suggestions. As the suggestions were passed around, everyone had to indicate their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. Dan has a person who can possibly work on a new logo and present it at the next meeting. COMMITTEE MEMBERS: We discussed new hats with a new logo. We would buy extras and sell them at various events. The color and logo are to be determined at the next meeting. Tim is going to get us a price on the hats. We also discussed shirts for the committee and again making extra to sell. This idea was not assigned to anyone. HANDOUTS, IDEAS AND COSTS: Several items were discussed. It was agreed every member is to present their ideas to Dan in the next week. The ideas are to include the number of suggested purchases, the cost and where to purchase the item. Some of the items discussed included: Firefighter hats, t- shirts, caps, challenge coins, new stickers for ringing the bell and new baseball cards. We also discussed beer glasses at Mundelein Days, and for the Beer Fest, we might also work with Tight head on the beer that was originally made in Mundelein. SPECIAL SUGGESTIONS: Robin suggested, for the "Drive the Village" events, doing more advertising but, instead of just driving around, stopping at various parks for the people to actually come to see the truck. The schedule would be published. We think it would be advisable to do at least 3 drives next June and maybe do them in the late afternoon as well. Dan suggested making some short videos about the history of our truck and how the village changed its name to Mundelein. Bob said he has several pages of history and would check with the historical commission for correctness. Bob suggested that maybe the Village could make some 100th Anniversary banners to put on the light poles around the Village. Winter Maintenance • Check bell counter • Repair awning carrier bag zipper • Fix electrical connection for spotlight • Repair cooling hose and leak • Check driveshaft bolts and tighten as needed • Check the level of water in the batteries • Check brake adjustments • Check clutch petal adjustments • Look over oil leaks and fix if possible • Check on quantity of "round tuits" • Check on quantity of baseball cards WINTER MAINTENANCE; • Check the bell counter. • Repair the awning bag zipper, it was suggested to simply purchase a new one. • Fix the ONO sign for the awning. • Fix the electrical connection of the spotlight. • Repair leaks in the water hoses. • Check the bolts on the driveshaft and re-tighten. • Check the water level in the batteries. • Check the brake adjustment. • Look over the entire truck for oil leaks and see if we can repair them. • Check on the quantity of round Tuits • Check on the baseball cards and make a new 100th design.  • Check on the present quantity of fireman’s hats.
