Commission
Absent: 1- Miller
Kuhn discussed the Commission’s previous work on the City’s Affordable
Housing work plan and asked for a progress report at the next meeting.
Hawken encouraged student representatives to share their thoughts on
human rights issues in Naperville and asked for clarification on what the
human rights portion of the Commission’s scope entails. Williams stated
that the Commission reviews and decides community complaints
regarding public accommodations which is the human rights piece.
Bergeron acknowledged the limits of the Commission’s scope and stated
that it is defined by the municipal code, unlike activist organizations and
private entities who can take other actions in the community. Barfuss stated
that staff recently reviewed all the City Boards & Commissions to
recommend revisions to their scope to City Council and there were no
recommended changes for the Human Rights & Fair Housing Commission.
Commissioners discussed other activities they can undertake that are
within the Commission's scope including bringing in speakers for
