CALL TO ORDER: Councilman Paul Hinterlong called the meeting to order at 8:07am. B. ROLL CALL: Also Present: Samantha Meyer, Administrative Specialist; Macarena (Rena) Tamayo-Calabrese, President & CEO; Donna Sack, VP & Chief Program Officer; Harriet Pistorio, COO; Brittany Tepper, Director of Marketing; Doug Krieger, City Manager Present 6- Paul Hinterlong, John Koranda, Len Monson , Lee Quillinan, Julie Schremser, and Greg Waite Absent 3- Steve Chirico, Bridget Kozlowski, and Al Zucco Introductions of appointed Student Representatives. The Student Representatives did not attend this meeting. C. PUBLIC FORUM: There were no comments in the public forum. D. OLD BUSINESS: Receive an update on grants. Macarena Tamayo-Calabrese stated that Naper Settlement has received close to $1.7 million in grants in 2021 from various foundations and state funding. Tamayo-Calabrese further stated that Naper Settlement is waiting to hear back on the Natural Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant for $705,000, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) grant for $749,000, and another Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) grant for $150,000. If two of the named grants are received, Innovation Gateway will be fully funded to begin construction; keeping in mind that if the NEH Grant is rewarded, it has a provision that the project cannot begin until July 1, 2022 per their requirements. Tamayo-Calabrese explained there is a probable 6-figure private gift expected to be received before the end of this year for Innovation Gateway. Macarena Tamayo-Calabrese provided the board updated renderings of the Innovation Gateway building stating that Naper Settlement is in continued discussion with Wight & Company to be sure this building is ADA compliant in every way. Receive an update on capital projects including a recap of the Groundbreaking Ceremony on September 19, 2021. Donna Sack provided an overview of the Groundbreaking Ceremony event that took place on September 19, 2021 for the Benck Family Agricultural City of Naperville Page 1 Printed on 2/11/2022 Naper Settlement Museum Board Meeting Minutes - Final November 5, 2021 Interpretive Center and the Herman & Anna Hageman Thresher Hall. Sack stated that there was tremendous support and effort from the surrounding communities farm families, Naper Settlement staff, and board members that have put into making this project a reality. Receive a building design update. Harriet Pistorio stated Wight & Company is onsite daily in the Naper Haight House where they will be for the next 2 years. Pistorio communicated that preparations are underway for the concrete to be poured for Herman & Anna Hageman Thresher Hall beginning of December 2021. She further stated that the Benck Family Agricultural Interpretive Center construction will not begin until May 2022 given the current waitlist for materials. But the metal exterior will be purchased now to avoid delays in beginning this project in May. Pistorio identified that an Owners Rep., Jerry Aulisio with The AT Group, has been hired to handle the day-to-day construction progress and payment schedules of the buildings. E. NEW BUSINESS: Receive a presentation on the 2022 Budget and Naper Settlement’s Capital Improvement Project (CIP). Attachments: NS CIP NS Budget Packet 10.28.21 Macarena Tamayo-Calabrese summarized Naper Settlements 2022 budget describing the most notable difference being the General Property Tax Support budget increase from $2.8 million in 2021 to $3.9 million in 2022. She further summarized each line item on the Naper Settlement Operating Plan for 2022 stating that the Naperville Heritage Society has approved this budget and it will be presented on Monday, November 8, 2021 to the City Council after receiving approval from the Naper Settlement Museum Board. Macarena Tamayo-Calabrese summarized the Capital Improvement Projects of capital projects encompassing $2.4 million ($1.2 million per building), installing security cameras for $193,000, and revamping the Pre-Emption House elevator for $122,000. The 2022 budget was approved with a motion made by Len Monson, seconded by Lee Quillinan. Motion carried 6-0. Receive an update on the Camera Project. Harriet Pistorio explained that she is working with Christine Schwartzhoff to install 4 new security cameras by the end of this year. The first 4 cameras will be placed at the Mansion lot, Webster Street, off the Schulz Building, and Daniel’s House to give a high-level coverage of Naper Settlements grounds with more cameras to come throughout 2022 to provide documented views of the entire perimeter fence surrounding Naper City of Naperville Page 2 Printed on 2/11/2022 Naper Settlement Museum Board Meeting Minutes - Final November 5, 2021 Settlement as well as entry and exit coverage at all vehicle and pedestrian access locations and roads. F. REPORTS: Receive and approve the minutes from the July 30, 2021 Naper Settlement Museum Board Meeting. Attachments: MeetingMinutes28-Oct-2021-03-12-51 The minutes were approved with an amendment that Gregory Waites name be added as absent in the July 30, 2021 Naper Settlement Museum Board minutes. A motion to approve the minutes as amended was made by Len Monson, seconded by John Koranda. Motion carried 6-0. Aye: 6- Hinterlong, Koranda, Monson, Quillinan, Schremser, and Waite Absent: 3- Chirico, Kozlowski, and Zucco Approve the financial report as of August 31, 2021. Attachments: P&L Notes + Report Harriet Pistorio discussed the financial report as of August 2021 pointing out that school services are coming back slowly, and rentals and weddings are increasing every day. Overall, Naper Settlement is right on target for revenue and expenditure for the year. The financial report was approved with a motion by Len Monson, seconded by Lee Quillinan. Motion carried 6-0. Aye: 6- Hinterlong, Koranda, Monson, Quillinan, Schremser, and Waite Absent: 3- Chirico, Kozlowski, and Zucco Receive the attendance and demographic report through September 2021. Attachments: CY21_Master_Attendance Macarena Tamayo-Calabrese summarized the attendance and demographic report through the end of September 2021 stating that it is expected that Naper Settlement will have less gate attendance and less field trips in the upcoming year due to the changing environment of in-person attendance for events and programs as a result of the pandemic. G. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:59am with a motion by Len Monson, seconded by John Koranda. Motion carried 6-0.
