This new law replaces the gubernatorial executive order concerning the Open Meetings Act and allows public bodies to temporarily conduct meetings remotely during a state of emergency, subject to certain requirements, including a determination by the head of the public body that an in-person meeting is not practical or prudent. On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, Mayor Chirico issued an executive order determining that in-person meetings of the City Council and the City’s boards and commissions are not currently practical or prudent due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Accordingly, we are once again holding the Sister Cities meeting remotely on September 19, 2020. The commissioners and staff participating in tonight’s meeting are all in different locations in accordance with social distancing guidelines. Any individual desiring to listen and/or participate in the meeting by telephone, or through the electronic meeting platform known as Zoom, has also been provided that opportunity using the log-in information provided on the Agenda for tonight’s meeting. PUBLIC FORUM: Commissioner Lance Fuhrer asked if there were any speakers under Public Forum and there being none we continued onto our first item of business. D. OLD BUSINESS: F. NEW BUSINESS: Alan Lowe will attend the Sister Cities Foundation meeting to insure we have cohesion between the Commission and Foundation for FundRaising and Logistics. Welcome Peter Foyo as new member of the board Our Commissioner, Lance Fuhrer, CW Gustin and the rest of the board welcomed Peter Foyo who was newly appointed to Sister Cities Board by Mayor Chirico. Approve the Sister Cities meeting minutes of August 19, 2020 The minutes from the Aug meeting were approved, with a motion to approve by Alan and a second by Vasivi, then approved by roll call vote. AYES (8): Sophia Luo, Peter Foyo, Vasavi Chakka, ‘Arista’ Yuqin Wang, Lance Fuhrer, Shafeek Abubaker, Julie Federico and Alan Lowe. NAYS: (0) Receive and accept the Treasurer’s Report for September’s meeting The Treasurer's report was presented by Julie Federico. The treasurer's report was RECEIVED and FILED. E. REPORTS: Foundation Update City of Naperville Page 2 Printed on 12/7/2020 Sister Cities Commission Meeting Minutes September 9, 2020 Cancun Update Special Event Update - SECA Application SECA Submission Vasavi, Sophia, Arista and Alan joined the two SECA introductory meetings (two commissioners at each meeting) and thus registered themselves and the Commission via the Foundation to submit a grant request. A Sub Committee of Sophia Luo and Alan Lowe will work on the details and submit the grant request. Other Business - Chairman G.
