CALL TO ORDER: Lance Fuhrer called the meeting to order at 7 pm. There was no quorum present. B. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Lance Fuhrer, Alan Lowe, Bill Donofrio, Arista Wang (arrived to the meeting late) ALSO PRESENT: Councilwoman Gustin, Council Liaison Rachel Pruneda, Staff Liaison Brent Lindstrom, Sister Cities Foundation Patty Lindstrom, Sister Cities Foundation There is no quorum. Sister Cities will proceed with their meeting, but will not vote on any items. Those items will be moved to the next meeting. PRESENT: Arista Wang Lance Fuhrer Bill Donofrio Alan Lowe Sister Cities Foundation: Others Present: Councilwoman Gustin Rachel Pruneda ABSENT: Vidya Joshi Neelam Saboo Sophia Luo Peter Foyo There is no quorum. Commission continued to meet, but did not approve any items. C. OLD BUSINESS: Penpal Program Status update. Pete Foyo will connect with someone on the school board in Mexico in order to get this project underway. Alan Lowe would like to hold a Webx meeting with Chief Hurtado of Cancun at a future date. E. REPORTS: Approve Sister Cities Commission minutes of August 11, 2021 There being no quorum, minutes will be held until the next meeting. Approve Sister Cities Commission minutes of September 9, 2021 There being no quorum. The minutes will be held until the next general meeting. Receive and file the Treasurer’s Report for August 2021 Neelam Saboo was not present for this meeting and there was no Treasurer's report to present. Receive and file the Treasurer’s Report for September 2021 Neelam Saboo was not present for this meeting and therefore there was no Treasurer's report presented. Chairman Fuhrer: Thank you for all your work on the first Hispanic Fest Thanking the Commissioners for their work on the festival. Submit SECA grant in the area of $33K Patty: Intends to grow the Foundation. We have to engage people and bring everyone together. CW Gustin - Council was very happy with this event. NCTV did an interview for the event. So many positives and some rubs. Bill - Can we buy the video from Hispanic Fest. Can the commission purchase the video? City of Naperville Page 2 Printed on 2/11/2022 Sister Cities Commission Meeting Minutes - Final October 13, 2021 Councilwoman Gustin: Thank you to the Foundation & Sister Cities Commissioners CW Gustin reported that NCTV took video footage of the festival and it was well done and the overall feedback of the festival was positive. City Council was very happy with the event. We should reach out to NCTV to see about purchasing the video using Foundation monies. Foundation Update: Patty Lindstrom shared that the Foundation has submitted the SECA grant for 2022. Patty: Strategy going forward and who we bring to the table to expand that. The website - There's nothing to report. There's not someone who has a budget to manage that. There needs to be a conversation about what that looks like. Alan: Website is owned by the City and the Commission. Lance: Brent: As a frame of reference. Patty: Clarification of what the site is. Look and feel of this year will not be the look and feel of next year. There are reasons that things have been slowed. Bill: The reason the website went up the way it did. We went to Plan B. Lance: Website Update: There has been no update on the website. Festival Update: Arista suggested that we prepare 'thank you' letters to the students that helped with the festival. Bill, Shruti and Arista should have this information. Sister City Update - Cancun, Mexico Alan proposed connecting with the commissioners from Cancun via zoom. He will connect with Cancun Fire Chief, Tom Hurtado to make these arrangements. Chief Hurtado has requested an agenda of items to be discussed at this meeting. Gustin: Ambulance has not been shipped.
