CALL TO ORDER: B. ROLL CALL: PRESENT (5) - Lance Fuhrer, Tony Chamberlain, Yugin Wang, James Alan Lowe, Arun Mani, Neelam Saboo and Becky Rudolph ABSENT (1) Sophia Luo STUDENTS REPRESENTATIVES PRESENT (2): Mohammad Kahn and Zachary Wu STAFF PRESENT: Rachel Pruneda C. PUBLIC FORUM: A group from Slovak Academy of Chicago spoke under public forum to introduce themselves. They wanted to introduce collaborating on an idea to celebrate 30 years of Naperville being Sister Cities with Nitra, Slovakia. Slovak Academy is a weekend-based school that teaches the Slvak language, literature, history, geography and religious eduction. They are approved and accredited by the Ilinois State Board of Education. D. OLD BUSINESS: E. REPORTS: Approve Sister Cities Commission minutes of April 12, 2023 The Sister Cities minutes of April 12 was approved by voice vote. Motion passes. Received and file the Treasurer’s Report for April 2023 Receive and file the Treasurer's Report. Sister Cities started with a balance of $3,350 and to date has spent $139 on Website Licensing Fees with a remaining balance of $3,211.00 CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - LANCE FUHRER SISTER CITIES UPDATE - COMMISSIONER ALAN LOWE SISTER CITIES FOUNDATION UPDATE - SHAFEEK ABUBAKER Shafeek Abubaker provided an update on the Hispanic Festival. He shared a google sheet with everyone. Tasks have been assigned to Foundation members and Commissioners. : City of Naperville Page 1 Printed on 5/1/2024 Sister Cities Commission Meeting Minutes - Final May 17, 2023 Chairman Fuhrer will work on a flyer. Neelam Saboo has been added as an administrator on the facebook group. Becky Rudolph - Website Alan Lowe - Marketing work Tony Chamberlain - Google Drive Dj, Entertainers and vendors are still being worked out. Fees for Merchandise Vendors is $75. Fee for food Vendors is $100 F. NEW BUSINESS: Tony Chamberlain and Arista Wang attended the Illinois Sister Cities Conference in Rockford and provided an update. Tony Chamberlain reported that Highland Park has done a tremendous job with their Sister Cities. They have an Adult Literacy Program, Cooking classes, and they sponsor a Youth Festival. We should really look into all of the things they have done for some ideals and goals for our Sister Cities. Tony Chamberlain stated that Carol Wolfe, Illinois Sister Cities Association President would like to meet with us. We will reach out to arrange a future meeting. G.
