Hynes BOARD OF ETHICS Joe LoVerde Village Hall, Council Chambers Louella B. Preston Andrew Przybylo February 6, 2010 – 8:30 a.m. Alan Weel The Board of Ethics meeting was held on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the Village Village Manager Hall. The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. by Chairman Joe LoVerde. George R. Van Geem Village Clerk Present: Marlene J. Victorine Trustee Joe LoVerde, Chairman Trustee Louella Preston Attorney Joseph Annunzio Attorney Mike Siegel Michael Fries Purpose of the meeting Chairman LoVerde called this meeting due to the recent articles in the newspapers referring to the ongoing pending investigation. He also stated that Attorney Annunzio will bring us up to date as to the recent event surrounding the former Mayor. Attorney Annunzio went on to explain that this investigation stems from the sentencing document provided by Mike Siegel, which was submitted by the federal government. A determination was made, by Attorney Annunzio, to investigate the alleged findings in this document. According to Attorney Annunzio the investigation is currently pending. This matter will be handled by Attorneys Annunzio and Siegel to find a solution to the questions brought up in the document. Chairman LoVerde questioned whether this document is a public record. Attorney Annunzio confirmed that this document is a public document. Chairman LoVerde questioned how this investigation will proceed. Attorney Annunzio stated that the investigation is currently looking at the process rather than individual employees. Mr. Fries questioned whether this investigation was being conducted under the Board of Ethics or Village government. Attorney Annunzio affirmed that this is under the Board of Ethics and is like any other complaint filed through the hotline. Trustee Preston questioned who would handle this if the Board of Ethics was not in place. Attorney Annunzio stated that this would be handled through him with the assistance of Mike Sigel. Chairman LoVerde wanted to make sure that what the trustees read in the papers; that they are informed of what is taking place. Chairman LoVerde would like to thank the Police department and Attorney Annunzio for the recent investigation that took place regarding Officer Christie. He also stated that these investigations are done with the highest level of integrity and transparency. www.vniles.com Board of Ethics Meeting, February 6, 2010 Executive Session Motion made by Mike Sigel to move into executive session, to discuss the pending investigation, seconded by Trustee Preston; on voice vote all concurred.
