meeting. The Commission would like to have photo ID cards, Dan will assist in
creating a design. Carolyn will look into creating a mockup flyer for the purpose
of presentation at community events. The Commission will contact the area
schools to schedule visits during the fall orientations. The Commission should
have a presence at events such as Bike Niles, the 4th of July Parade at Grennan
Heights Park and attend Block Parties.
V. New Business
a. Niles Family Services Meeting
Commissioner Lee attended a Niles Family Services meeting on March 22, 2016.
Family Services would like to work more closely with the Community Relations
Commission. One of the biggest targets is to improve fair housing and to
advocate for more permanent affordable housing. The Commission was asked to
assist with grants for affordable housing. There are many specifics within the
population that need assistance. It was also suggested to communicate more with
other Community Relations Commissions within the area. The Commission will
look into attending Conflict Mediation Training at the Center for Conflict
Resolution or training through NIMS. CRC could possibly assist Family Services
with a food or clothing drive once or twice a year.
b. Appointment of New Commissioners
Carolyn Drblik and Ravi Devi are two names to be possibly appointed to the
Community Relations Commission. If both people are added to the Commission,
the Ordinance would have to be changed. This request would then be vetted
through the General Government/IT Committee and if approved the request
would be presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval.
