COMMISSION FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND NEIGHBORHOOD RENEWAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING SUMMARY Thursday, October 13, 2016 Persons in Attendance: Executive Committee: Andrew Przybylo – Mayor Denise M. Call to Order Meeting was called to order at approximately 5:06pm. II. Approval of Minutes Minutes of the September 9, 2016 Executive Committee Meeting were unanimously approved. III. Façade Grant Application for 7956 W. Oakton The application for a Facade Grant at 7956 W. Oakton – Service Works Heating & A/C Inc. was presented. After some discussion regarding the garage door on the side of the building and the fact that the property owner is not helping the tenant with these improvement a motion was made by Denise McCreery and seconded by Mike Shields to approve a $2,500 Façade Grant for 7956 W. Oakton with the stipulation that this is for the front window wall and not the garage door on the side of the building. This motion was approved. IV. Discussion of EDNR Goals After some great discussion on this topic the following goals and actionable projects were approved and will be presented to the Full EDNR Commission at a future meeting: 1. Selling the Schools a. How do we get information into byers and realtors hands that put Niles and the schools within our borders in a positive light? 2. Improving the Housing Stock a. Create a committee to explore working with other governmental agencies and financial intuitions on developing a local incentive program to assist homeowners (new and existing) in securing financing to encourage home improvements. b. Explore concepts or ideas that other jurisdictions have implemented pertaining to housing stock improvement and see if they could be duplicated in Niles. c. Explore additional Senior Housing options for Niles. 3. Selling Niles a. Form a Marketing Committee to explore new avenues for promoting Niles. 4. “Jumpstarting” the development of South Milwaukee Avenue Projects a. Explore how to link the North Branch trail to the South Milwaukee area b. Explore branding the South Milwaukee Area as a “Home Improvement” corridor. c. Improve transit access to the area by supporting the Pace PULSE line and the exploration of a Metra station on the Milwaukee District North Line. With that stated a tentative meeting date the week of November 7th was suggested. VI. Adjournment The meeting adjourned at 7:02pm.
