I. Approve Meeting Summary: Wednesday, June 15, 2015
a. Unanimous approval.
II. Old Business
a. IT Update
New phone system is up and working with a steady flow of adjustments.
Old phone lines are being cancelled and will save the Village $50,000 to
$60,000 per year. Nicole Perrella is the point person in IT for phone
training and questions. IT is working with the Trustees to set up their
phones according to their individual needs. In August the departmental
phone liaisons will be brought together to share ideas for the next step for
the phone system.
b. Taste of Sister Cities
Trustee Alpogianis called a meeting with Joe Annunzio to set the state of
the 501C3. The taste will be held on March 19, 2016. A commission will
be formed between General Government – Arts & Culture and others.
Good things to come for Sister Cities in the next 4 – 6 years. Try to keep
most in Niles, will need to reach out to other communities for ethnics that
we do not have. Greek, Polish and Italian good in Niles.
III. New Business
a. Dumpster Ordinance
Tabled – need further discussion
b. Speeding in Work Areas
Tabled – need further discussion
IV. Open Discussion
Bill Shaw commented that a plan needs to be organized for the Emergency Call Centers.
Phase out the old equipment. The best back up for the EOC is the IT Training Room. IT
has a fully stocked lab containing 13 computers and 13 phones. Reverse 911 not defined
how it works. New phone system can help because a bank of phones can be assembled
anywhere, not just the EOC.
Kathy Barnat commented that Bring your Child to Work Day is normally done on the
National Take your Child to Work Day – the fourth Thursday of April – which
coordinates with schools to allow absences. What are we looking to do with this
program. A flexible schedule was suggested, a target date can be too specific.
Trustee George Alpogianis commented that staff and department heads are sometimes
not accommodating to the Board members. If a reasonable request is made by a Board
member, the request should be granted.
Trustee Alpogianis commented that Police and Fire Contracts have now been signed.
The AFSCME contract is still being negotiated. It looks good and is moving forward.
The hope is to have the contract completed in the next couple of months.
V. Public Comment
Resident Louella Preston commented on the date of the Sister Cities event that it could
be in conflict with other local events.
VI. Next Scheduled Meeting – Wednesday August 12, 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
Meeting adjourned at 9:31 a.m. Unanimous approval to adjourn.
