IV. New Business

Hayley Garard displayed the current Village of Niles Arts and Culture webpage.
Cultural Arts Coordinator Jennifer Lasik and Community Engagement Specialist Patrick
Deignan from the City of Evanston presented information about their Arts and Culture
webpage. They described methods to accomplish their two goals: encouraging “arts”
people to use it and making sure people are seeing it.
b. Discussion of Budget and Formation of Budget Subcommittee
The next task for this Council is to establish a budget for Fiscal Year 2017, which runs
from May 1, 2016 to April 30, 2017. The budget will allow the Council to establish
priorities and hone in on a direction. Budgeted items could include creating a logo;
sponsoring artistic displays (snow plows, utility boxes, etc.); sponsoring, running or
facilitating events (Holly Jolly, Taste of Sister Cities, etc.); promoting and sponsoring a
meet-up of artists; researching grant opportunities; etc.
Lindsay Brubaker, Janet Spector Bishop, Ericka Stoor-Burning and Steve Vinezeano will
serve on the Budget Subcommittee and will meet before the next regular meeting.

It was suggested that we gather the artists who created the roses and coolers for the Chamber
of Commerce Night of Roses events to recognize their talent and showcase their work.
The Focus on Niles newsletter can be used to attract the attention of local artists.
