APPROVED MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK COOK COUNTY March 8, 2012 Chairman Pro-Tem Town called the meeting to order in the Terrace Room of the Village Hall at 5:31 PM. On roll call, present were: Members Heidbrink, Katz, Menn, Rubenstein, and Town (5); Absent: Chairman Schwall and Member Jordison (2); also present: M. Kohlstedt, Village Planner; T. Poupard, Director of Development and Planning; and N. Desario, Assistant Director of Building. Public Comments There were no comments from the public at this time. Review of minutes Member Katz moved, seconded by Member Menn, to approve the minutes of February 9, 2012. On voice vote, the motion carried. At 5:37 PM Chairman Schwall entered the meeting. Level III Design Reviews 1955 Cherry Lane – Turn The Tables request for a wall sign Planner Kohlstedt introduced the application. John Klema of Michael’s Signs and Mitch Schwartz of Turn the Tables were present. Planner Kohlstedt confirmed that the light fixtures above the sign would be black that the sign was compliant with the zoning code. The Members needed to consider if the sign integrated well with the surroundings, was the sign scale integrated with the existing signs in the shopping center, was the sign unobtrusive, was the sign properly sized for pedestrian scale. Member Rubenstein asked if the beige color sample was the actual color the applicant intended to use, following up that the color may appear washed out when located on the beige facade. The other members agreed. The Applicant considered the color and ultimately decided to change the beige color to a manila color as recommended by the commissioners. Member Katz asked if the gooseneck light fixtures would be similar to the existing fixtures previously approved in the center. The Applicant replied that they would be complementary. Member Rubenstein moved, seconded by Member Heidbrink, to approve the proposed sign as presented this evening and was subject to the following conditions: the beige sign color would be changed to manila, the two light fixtures will be painted black. On voice vote, the motion carried. 1965 Cherry Lane – Dollar Tree request for a wall sign Planner Kohlstedt introduced the application. Kimberly Russell of Signs of Distinction and Hector Gonzalez of Dollar Tree were present. Planner Kohlstedt stated the proposed sign designed in keeping with the corporations branding format. The Members needed to consider if the sign integrated well with the surroundings, was the sign scale integrated with the existing signs in the shopping center, was the sign unobtrusive, was the sign properly sized for pedestrian scale. Following no discussion, Member Menn moved, seconded by Member Rubenstein, to approve the proposed sign as presented this evening and was subject to the following conditions: the applicant will patch and paint any holes in the fascia from the previous tenant sign. On voice vote, the motion carried. Discussion of Work Program for the Upcoming Year Director Poupard informed the commission that the Village President has decided to form a new group consisting of members from the Plan Commission, Architectural Control Commission, and the Stormwater Management Committee, to discuss zoning and site improvements as these relate to infrastructure issues in the Village. Director Poupard further stated that the code amendments will be reviewed more specifically with the commission following the direction from the Village Board regarding the matters which will be handled by the new task force being formed. Director Poupard did assure the commission that the Village would not adopt code amendments that are stricter than the State requirements. Single Family Home Elevations The following Single Family Homes were reviewed.  2200 Woodlawn – Pathmann Architects, Inc. - Architect  1340 Edgewood – Mark S. Luetkahans - Architect  2605 Crabtree – H. Wolff & Assoc. Ltd. – Architect  940 Butternut – J.R. Byrnes, Assoc. – Architect  2506 Illinois – ALA Architects & Planners, Inc. - Architect Member Rubenstein motioned, seconded by Member Menn, to allow Staff to review the elevations and handle the appropriate paperwork. On voice vote, the motion carried. New Business There was no new business. Old Business There was no old business. Adjourn Member Town moved, seconded by Member Katz, that the meeting be adjourned.
