There was a quorum. 33 34 Review of Minutes 35 A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes from the September 8, 2016 meeting as 36 submitted. On a voice vote, 5 members voted aye. Lori Jordison arrived at 5:35 after the vote. 37 38 Public Comments Regarding Items Not on the Agenda 39 There were none. 40 41 Proposed Wall Sign for Performance Bicycle (315 Skokie) 42 43 Mr. Schoon explained that wall signs for the Village Square Shopping Center typically do not come 44 before the ACC, but staff wanted the ACC to weigh in on this sign. The tenant and owner are proposing 45 to place the sign across the front of the corner architectural feature of the center, which includes a glass 46 element. The Development Agreement for the shopping center includes a requirement that raceways to 47 accommodate wiring and transformers shall be mounted on the inside of the building fascia. The 1 APPROVED 1 raceway for the proposed sign would cross in front of the glass and brick of the corner element. The 2 sign meets sign regulations other than this raceway requirement. 3 4 John Zoerner, with Mid America Asset Management and representing the property owner, explained 5 that a new tenant is moving into a combined 45,000 sf space that was partially occupied by Performance 6 Bicycle. This new tenant will sell sporting goods, including bicycles. As a result, Performance Bicycle has 7 relocated but wants the proposed sign moved for better visibility. The sign would be placed on the glass 8 tower. All wiring, conduit and transformers would be placed inside a raceway. The wire would run 9 through the canopy until it gets to the tower and then go upwards. There will be a 4 ½” raceway painted 10 to match the masonry. 11 12 John Doyle, from the sign company answered member’s questions concerning the color of the sign. He 13 stated he will use whatever colors match best to hide the wiring- in the window area he will use black 14 and the brick area a goldish tone. 15 16 Chairman Schwall questioned whether other tenants might request moving signage to towers by their 17 spaces if this is granted. Would this set a precedent? Mr. Zoerner stated Performance has a 20-year 18 lease. If others have the same signage request he would ask for a longer lease. This most likely would 19 discourage tenants requesting to move the signage. 20 21 A motion was made and seconded to approve the Performance Bicycle wall sign as proposed at 315 22 Skokie allowing the raceway signage over the glass with care taken to match the glass and brick as best 23 as possible. The motion was unanimously adopted. 24 25 New Single Family Home Elevations- 26 27 A motion was made and seconded to approve the following single family home elevations with the 28 noted conditions: 29 30 1. 1988 Big Oak subject to staff confirming that this home would comply with the anti-monotony 31 standards when compared with the house under construction on the same block frontage. 32 2. 501 Alice Drive as presented. 33 3. 1954 Kiest Avenue as presented. 34 35 New Business 36 None 37 38 Old Business 39 None 40 41 Adjourn 42 There being no further business, a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. On a voice 43 vote, the motion unanimously carried and the meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. 44 45 Respectfully submitted, 46 47 Colleen Brunner 2 APPROVED 1 Recording Secretary 3
