COMMITTEE UPDATES
Art in the Park
Chairman Miller reported the sub-committee which includes Erin Malloy, Elsa Fischer, Jessica Neton and
Chairman Miller are just getting started on the event for 2013. The contract with Erin Malloy has been signed
and she is already working on the event in which she has sent out the applications with a February deadline
date. After the first of the year the sub-committee will be expanding and the commissioners will be asked to
join the set-up, music, food, etc. committees. The sub-committee is working on the promotional packet with
Erin Malloy at this time as well.
The commission is looking to hire a graphic artist Justin Miller to update the Arts Commission logo (16 hours
of design work for $300.00). He will give the commission 4 options by January 3rd to review and comment
on. He will then edit 1 to 2 logos and get that back to the commission by January 17th and we would have a
final logo by January 31, 2012 to vote on and approve at the meeting of February 7, 2013 to use for the Art in
the Park promotional advertising.
With no meeting in January, Chairman Miller will contact all the commissioners to see which ones want to get
together in January and review the submitted logos. Upon receiving the responses, a quick meeting may be
called in the Terrace Room to discuss just the logo.
MOTION: Commissioner Laughlin motioned to allocate $300.00 for approximately 16 hours of artistry
work to receive 4 logo mock ups of which a final logo for the Arts Commission will be chosen.
Commissioner Winnie seconded the motion. All are in favor.
Art Workshops
Commissioner Jamora reported sub-committee met and decided to have three workshops but not all in a row.
The tentative schedule is April 6 and 7th will be a two day for water color with Dian Johnson who is well
known in the water color western suburbs and is part of the Elk Grove Art Guild. She is a fantastic water
color artist and this workshop should be well attended.
May 4th and 5th are the tentative dates for Sally Keller, a local artist from the northern suburbs. She does
pastel, oil and charcoal art. She will do a two day class in pastel portraits. Her website is
www.sallybakerkeller.com so you can look at her work.
The sub-committee was thinking in the fall in late September or October we hope to have Joye Moon do a
collage workshop. She does workshops around the country and lives in Wisconsin. Dates will be discussed
with her and then reported back to the commission.
The sub-committee was thinking of lowering the prices for the workshops so more people will be able to
participate and without travel, hotel and food costs, this would be comparable to what has been spent and
made in the past.
Open Committee Opportunities
Chairman Miller discussed how having sub-committees have helped expedite discussion on events during
commission meetings. There are openings for sub-committee members for Northbrook Originals for
Advertising, Opening night, etc. Commissioner Robbins passed out the application form for all to review and
comment on.
Help will also be needed for Art in the Park for music, etc.
