OF THE NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION
VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK
April 9, 2015
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 6:00 p.m. at the Northbrook Public Library,
Second Floor, Youth Services.
Commissioners present: Jerry Block, Steve Gianni, Marilyn Jamora, Frank Lamberti, Christopher
Laughlin and Sharon Moyer.
Commissioners Excused: Maureen Fallows and Cherie Natenberg
Commissioners Absent: None
Guests in attendance None.
MINUTES:
Approval of minutes has been deferred until the June meeting.
HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE:
Jim Kariangis discussed with the commissioners the Northbrook Symphony and announced some
upcoming events. He stated he would visit again in the near future to keep the commission updated and
discuss future Grant requests with them.
GRANT REQUEST
The Northbrook Public Library has submitted a Grant request for the 13th annual Art Show Flights of
Fancy: Unexpected Works of Whimsy, October 9 – November 20, 2015. They are requesting an amount
of $550.00 for the third place prize.
MOTION: Commissioner Moyer motioned to approve the request from the Library in the amount of
$550.00 for the third place prize for the annual art show and Commissioner Laughlin seconded the
motion. All commissioners are in favor, Steve Gianni recused himself from the vote.
ART IN THE PARK
Chairman Miller discussed the packet for all the tasks for the event and what may still be needed.
The art work for promotional activity has been selected and a copy was in there pass out. This is a
Stained Glass Design by Artist, Lee E. Klade. There are 77 artists that have been accepted. Our limit is
75 but we will find room for the extra 2 artists. This number may change before the day of the event.
Dairy Queen will be back and Little Louie’s has been asked but has not committed yet.
The young artist recruitment will take place in May and June.
SPRING WORKSHOPS:
Commissioner Jamora reported the March workshop with Artist Gordon France was successful with 12
people. May 2 & 3, 2015 will be Artist Peggi Habits and 13 people have signed up so far. It looks like
we will have a $345.00 profit. The commission would like to thank the Northbrook Park District for the
use of the tile room. They also blocked off an area in there parking lot for participants and it was much
appreciated.
NORTHBROOK PARK DISTRICT EVENT
The Park District is doing a casting call for Oliver the musical. Commissioner Lamberti was explaining
the musical and the casting call to the commission. Anyone interested in auditioning should contact the
Park District. Performances will be the June 12 – 14, 2015.
OLD BUSINESS:
None
NEW BUSINESS:
The Northbrook Public Library will have a Grand Opening June 14, 15 & 16, 2015 for the completion of
the Library construction. There will be a Jazz series on the 3rd Friday of each month at the Library.
Commissioner Gianni announced the Arts Commission could sponsor some of the series. This would
help promote the commission.

Commissioner Gianni made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Block seconded. On voice vote, the
motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
