NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION
VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK
November 12, 2015
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:08 p.m. in the Village of Northbrook Terrace Room .
Commissioners present: Steve Gianni, Frank Lamberti, Christopher Laughlin, Sharon Moyer and Marilyn Jamora and
Cherie Natenberg.
Commissioners Excused: Jerry Block, Sheila Day.
Commissioners Absent: None
Guests in attendance: Marsha Schwartz, Resident and Al Alverez, Artist.
MINUTES:
Chairman Julia Miller suggested the minutes from the October 8, 2015 meeting be deferred until the next meeting.
HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE:
Marsha Schwartz introduced herself as a member of the Northbrook Symphony board, a Real Estate agent in downtown
Northbrook and a resident.
GENERAL REPORT
Chairman Miller reported there is currently $16,000 in the account. This report shows all events already approved by
the commission, annual events that are normally suggested and future events in discussion. This will give the
commission an idea of monies available for Grants. The commission does have grant requests for discussion.
GRANTS
Request received from the Northbrook Symphony for the Holiday concert on December 6, 2015. Commissioner Moyer
motioned to approve the request from the Northbrook Symphony for the Holiday concert for 2015 in the amount of
$3,000.00. Commissioner Gianni seconded the motion and all are in favor. MOTION PASSED
Request received from the Northbrook Library for three concerts, two separate events. Commissioner Natenberg
motioned to approve the request of $2,000 for the Northbrook Library concert series and Commissioner Laughlin
seconded the motion. All commissioners are in favor, Commissioner Gianni abstained from vote. MOTION
PASSED.
Approval to proceed with the annual Northbrook Originals show with the Northbrook Library. Request is in the
amount of up to $750.00. Commissioner Laughlin motioned to approve the $750.00 for the Northbrook Originals and
Commissioner Jamora seconded the motion. All commissioners are in favor. MOTION PASSED.
SPRING ART WORKSHOPS
Commissioner Jamora updated the commissioners on the Spring workshops. First workshop is March 19 th and 20th with
Marikay Witlock (Pastel Artist).
The second workshop is April 30th and May 1st with Bridget Austin (Watercolor).
The commissioners are starting to get the information out to Artists regarding the upcoming workshops early. There
will only be two workshops this year.
POETRY EVENT 2016
Chairman Miller reported that the April 2016 Poetry Event at the Northbrook Library with a budget up to $500.00
already approved is moving forward.

OLD BUSINESS:
None
NEW BUSINESS:
Commissioner Laughlin is working on details for a Music/Dance event for April and May of 2016. It is suggested it be
a three concert series such as Latin Jazz, Flamenco and Argentinian or Brazilian music and dance.
The commissioners were asked by Chairman Miller if they are interested in this event for 2016 at the Northbrook
Library Auditorium on Sundays within a five week span. The commissioners are interested in proceeding with this
event. A proposal will be presented at the next meeting for consideration by the commission.
Commissioner Gianni discussed the film showings they have at the Library and is offering the Arts Commission to
request a movie if they would like to be shown. The cost would run up to approximately $500.00 for two showings.
This would get the Arts Commissions name out to a new group of patrons.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Next month our Guest will be Kate Hall, Director of the Northbrook Public Library. Wants to talk how the commission
could work more with the Library.
Get your tickets for the Holiday Concerts at Techny Towers for December 6 th as the tickets go fast.
No meeting will be held in January of 2016.
ADJOURN
Commissioner Moyer motioned to adjourn the meeting and Commissioner Jamora seconded the motion, all are in favor
at 8:00 p.m.
