NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION
VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK
July 7, 2016
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Christopher Laughlin at 7:00 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall Terrace
Room.
Commissioners present: Al Alvarez, Jerry Block, , Sheila Day, Steve Gianni, Frank Lamberti, Sharon Moyer and
Marsha Schwartz.
Commissioners Excused: None
Commissioners Absent: None
Guests in attendance: Bruce Bondy, Janet Cordovi, Chris Sheban (Illustrator), Kate Hall (Director of the Northbrook
Public Library), Celeste Hanson (Northbrook Public Library) and Debbie Netter of DW Events.
MINUTES:
Minutes were deferred until the August meeting.
Chairman Laughlin announced this would be Mr. Frank Lamberti’s last meeting as he is leaving the Northbrook Park
District and will be employed by New Trier High School in the business department. The commissioners wish him
well in his new position and thanked him for his time on the commission and all his assistance with the events. A
replacement will be named by the August meeting.
The Commission reviewed the video that commissioner Block made of last year’s Art in the Park. Debbie Netter will
take the slide show and put it on her website.

2016 ART IN THE PARK update:
Commissioner Moyer said she has the materials for the Information Booth. Chairman Laughlin asked about the two-
way radios and Frank Lamberti discussed the four radios needed for the event that the Park District will have available.
Music – Chairman Laughlin said the contracts are in and the sound system is set. Artists Hospitality Room –
Commissioner Gianni - Staffing will be from 6:30/7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The building will remain open all day and
be stocked with water for the Artists. Commissioner Gianni will talk to Cheryl Fayne DePersio regarding last years
event and also talk to Bruce at Sunset and Starbucks regarding the Coffee and Water. The Northbrook Park District
will have signage on the door for the Artists. Young Artists Exhibit – Mr. Bondy said he has received some parental
permission slips back and there will be 6 or 7 people so he needs four 8’ tables. Debbie Netter stated the Taco Factory
will be the food vendor this year. He will service Tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. We also have Dairy Queen, Fudge
Lady and Kettle Korn.
Sponsors for this year’s event are ComEd, Renewal by Anderson, Power Remodeling and Home Improvement
Network.
Debbie Netter and the commission discussed the layout of the booths, Young Artists booth and the Food vendor
location. There are very few relocations were made from last year. This year we have 75 Artists.
PROPOSAL FOR “ARIST IN RESIDENCE” PROGRAM
Commissioner Block, Kate Hall and Celeste Hansen and Commission Moyer have discussed this program and how it
would work in the Northbrook Public Library. Kate Hall discussed how they would like to do a partnership with the
Arts Commission to help with reviewing Art submissions to be hung at the Northbrook Public Library.
The Village of Northbrook is subject to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Individuals with disabilities who plan to
attend this meeting and require certain accommodations in order to allow them to observe and/or participate in this meeting, or who have questions

Also they reviewed the Library space for Visual Art to be displayed by 4 or 5 Artists at a time. This would be for
residents that are Artists. Kate Hall announced that they are looking into purchasing the Walker System for displaying
Art. There would be 5 pieces of Art displayed on the main wall across from the reception desk. The spaces have been
laid out on all three floors for displaying Art. They discussed having books that could connect to pieces of Art in the
Library program. Commissioner Block gave a visual of how the Walker system would work and how/where the Art
would be hung for residents to see it.
Kate Hall would like the Arts Commission to review and approve any Art submitted to be hung at the Library.
MOTION: Commissioner Block motioned to approve the Artist in Residence program which includes finding Artists,
scheduling the hanging of artwork, reviewing artwork submitted and advertising of the program with the Library.
Commissioner Gianni seconded the motion and all are in favor.
Commissioner Bundy asked if at the next meeting the guidelines and process for this program.
Commissioner Alvarez presented an idea for atheatre show called “Articulit”. This show costs $300.00 for one hour for
6 women. Commissioners discussed this would be perfect for the Auditorium in the Northbrook Public Library. They
are looking into the month of January 2017 which is open at this time. The Northbrook Public Library needs a 3 month
lead time for their Newsletter publishing of the event.
MOTION: Commissioner Moyer motioned to approve $300.00 for a theatre show called “Articulit”, Commissioner
Bondy seconded the motion and all are in favor.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Moyer discussed the idea of the fall workshops and stated the Northbrook Park
District is very busy in the fall so she would need a date right away. Outside painting was discussed for a future event
and the commission will discuss this idea in more detail at a later date. Mr. Bondy will gather more information and
report back to the commission.

Commissioner Block motioned to adjourn the meeting and Commissioner Moyer seconded the motion, all are in favor
at 8:19 p.m.
