APPROVED MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE BICYCLE TASK FORCE
Northbrook Village Hall – Terrace Conference Room
March 14, 2012
Members Present: Doug Gerleman, Angus Duthie, Mardi Scott, Dan Pepoon, Chris Henning and Jim
O’Connell
Members Absent: Bob Jaeger, Bob Israel and George Garner Jr
Staff Present: Jim Baxa
Staff Absent: Terry Ryan and Jennifer Rooks-Lopez
Others Present: None
Call Meeting to Order. Chairman Gerleman called the meeting to order in the Terrace Conference
Room of the Village Hall at 7:11 p.m.
Review January 11, 2012, Minutes. It was moved and seconded that the November 9, 2011, minutes
be approved. The motion was approved.
Public Comments – Hear from Audience. No one was in attendance.
Skokie Valley Trail Update – Memo to Village Board: Staff reviewed the proposed memo scheduled to
be presented to the Village Board on April 10th for additional comments or suggestion prior to a final
draft is submitted for Board Agenda. Some suggestions from the committee suggested included
providing a cost alternative for the recommended trail alignment in comparison with the original design
alignment and relabel the supporting exhibits for better clarity with the memo narrative.
Shared Lane Marking (Sharrows)
The Bicycle Task Force reviewed the proposed 5-year maintenance program cost analysis provided by
Public Works. The initial consensus of the committee was to request the Village Board incorporate the
maintenance program into Public Work’s operation budget; then the committee decided to delay the
request in order for the Village Board to focus more on the Skokie Valley Trail memo regarding the
alternate alignment. Staff presented a revised informational brochure on Share Lane Marking for
review; the Committee was in favor of using the updated brochure on the website and pass out
information.
Bicycle Safety at Northbrook School and Earth Day:
Bicycle safety training program will be held at Westmoor with the assistance of Active Transportation
Alliance on June 1st. The committee agreed it would be beneficial to document the event for future

promotion among other School Districts. George Garner Cyclery committed to hosting a booth at the
Village’s Annual Earth Day event and distribute literature to those in attendance.
Review Bike Task Force Work Plan: Review of the Core Work Program was made, accomplishments
were updated and other suggestions were added to the list for next year.
Set Topics for Next Meeting: The Task Force did not identify any additional topics.
Adjourn: On motion made and seconded, the meeting of the BTF was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
