1 Approved Minutes 2 Flamingo Fridays (FF) and Welcome to Northbrook (WTN) 3 Joint Subcommittee Meeting 4 Nov. 20, 2014, 7 p.m., Village Hall 5 6 Present: Elliott Bruckman, Dale Duda, Mary Hansen and Nancy Stoddard 7 8 Introduction and welcome: A warm welcome and thank you was extended to our new 9 joint subcommittee members. 10 11 Budgets: We reviewed our individual budget requests--$200 for WTN and $150 for FF. 12 With that combined amount we should be able to buy enough flamingos, refreshments 13 and misc. for the event. 14 15 Timetables: We decided to seek input from the full commission regarding which date in 16 May to schedule the event. Will it be Friday, May 15 or May 22? The time and location 17 will remain the same: 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Village Hall. We will need to be flexible as to 18 indoors in the lobby or outdoors on the lawn. Keep you fingers crossed for good 19 weather! 20 21 Participation: It was discussed that while we are not a huge event, we are a significant 22 and important one. So we are hoping to encourage fellow CRC members and more 23 Village trustees to stop by to actively welcome and chat up newcomers to the village. 24 25 Community groups to invite as exhibitors: We discussed inviting back all groups that 26 participated last year and are exploring additional groups such as the Historical Society, 27 Rotary, etc. We plan to extend a special invitation to Kate Hall, the new library director, 28 to give her an opportunity to meet residents in a relaxed and fun setting. 29 30 Responsibilities/action plan: 31 32 1. Food: Elliott will speak to Sunset Foods again to see if there is any possibility of 33 getting the popcorn wagon again. If not, some backup ideas were floated. He 34 also will look into snacks such as cookies, bottled water, etc. Dale will request 35 Dilly Bars again from Dairy Queen. No hot dogs, pizza or anything substantial 36 like that. 37 38 2. Exhibitors: Nancy will contact potential exhibitors with an invitation to 39 participate. We're especially hoping that the Park District will provide 40 games/entertainment for the kids again, as they did such a fabulous job in 41 previous years. Elliott will ask Chris to contact police and fire for vehicle tours. 42 43 3. Flamingos: Dale will order up to $150 in flamingos at approx. $4:50 each. Mary 44 will help glue in legs when they arrive. 45 46 4. Publicity: Dale will update last year's press release and postcard and forward to 47 Michael for proper dissemination. Maybe we can get new photos to update the 48 flyer? 49 Respectfully submitted, 50 Dale Duda 51 FF/WTN co-chair 52
