Flamingo Fridays (FF) and Welcome to Northbrook (WTN)
Joint Subcommittee Meeting
Nov. 20, 2014, 7 p.m., Village Hall

Present: Elliott Bruckman, Dale Duda, Mary Hansen and Nancy Stoddard

Introduction and welcome: A warm welcome and thank you was extended to our new
joint subcommittee members.

Budgets: We reviewed our individual budget requests--$200 for WTN and $150 for FF.
With that combined amount we should be able to buy enough flamingos, refreshments
and misc. for the event.

Timetables: We decided to seek input from the full commission regarding which date in
May to schedule the event. Will it be Friday, May 15 or May 22? The time and location
will remain the same: 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Village Hall. We will need to be flexible as to
indoors in the lobby or outdoors on the lawn. Keep you fingers crossed for good
weather!

Participation: It was discussed that while we are not a huge event, we are a significant
and important one. So we are hoping to encourage fellow CRC members and more
Village trustees to stop by to actively welcome and chat up newcomers to the village.

Community groups to invite as exhibitors: We discussed inviting back all groups that
participated last year and are exploring additional groups such as the Historical Society,
Rotary, etc. We plan to extend a special invitation to Kate Hall, the new library director,
to give her an opportunity to meet residents in a relaxed and fun setting.

Responsibilities/action plan:

1. Food: Elliott will speak to Sunset Foods again to see if there is any possibility of
getting the popcorn wagon again. If not, some backup ideas were floated. He
also will look into snacks such as cookies, bottled water, etc. Dale will request
Dilly Bars again from Dairy Queen. No hot dogs, pizza or anything substantial
like that.

2. Exhibitors: Nancy will contact potential exhibitors with an invitation to
participate. We're especially hoping that the Park District will provide
games/entertainment for the kids again, as they did such a fabulous job in
previous years. Elliott will ask Chris to contact police and fire for vehicle tours.

3. Flamingos: Dale will order up to $150 in flamingos at approx. $4:50 each. Mary
will help glue in legs when they arrive.

4. Publicity: Dale will update last year's press release and postcard and forward to
Michael for proper dissemination. Maybe we can get new photos to update the
flyer?
Respectfully submitted,
Dale Duda
